Why does everyone look to God for help and or forgivness?

Could someone explain to me what comfort they get for praying to something that no one has ever seen? And those that claim to have seen him cannot provide proof?

When has god helped anyone in anything? Why did he allow a tsunami to kill 10k plus people? Why does he continue to allow brutal murders/rapes to happen daily?

I get the whole going to church thing, and that it makes you feel like a better person...but what has god done for anyone that they cannot do for themselves?

if i decide to stop working tomorrow, how will i afford a roof over my head or food? is a magical house going to appear on a plot of land with my name on it? will the cabinets be full of food? hmmmm

My ultimate question is...why does religion in general comfort people so much? why do they have to look elsewhere to get what they need instead of within?

you dont have to go into detail if you do not want to. i am hoping to get some semi serious responses though. this is a topic that interests me since i am kind of in the middle of spectrum and a lot of people are on the other.

i just dont understand how people get comfort from religion.

i believe a lot of people look to a higher power so they can see their loved ones when they die. strange part is i know someone who is really religious, christian, and he told me that no one is married in heaven? so basically you can screw anyone you want. i never heard of that until he brought it up.

so without god there would be no difference between right and wrong. you dont need a high power to figure out what you should and should not do?

That's BS. You don't commit murder because your are an well adjusted human being. At least I hope so because the alternative is that you don't commit murder because of what will happen after you die and not because you are a decent human being.

Has nothing to do with being capable of answering. These threads end up in the podium eventually. Why not just put it in the correct place to begin with? Are you not capable of starting threads in the correct forum?
