How much emergency money do you keep?

8,038 649 March 25, 2011 at 07:56 PM
Just wondering approximately how much cash people keep on hand in the event of an emergency…

not talking about the 20 behind your drivers liscense…

i am referring to the money burried in your sock drawer, under your mattress, in a box in the back yard etc..

they money you keep on hand for the earthquake, flood, riot, hurricane, etc…

I am refreshing my emergency supplies and just am not sure if I have enough cash on hand (yes I am making sure i have it in smaller bills so i can make change in the event others cant)

I just re-read your post...your asking how much CASH I keep on hand? The answer is none...maybe I'm silly, maybe I should start to keep at least some on hand??

Not a lot. But I don't have a lot of money to begin with (college student, etc).

I generally try to keep around $100 on-hand. That should be enough to last me for a little while. Chances are, I'd only be making my way to post to gear up and roll out should something crazy happen.

DH keeps stashing cash in our fireproof safe. IDK how much he's put in there.

If an emergency happened, we'd be able to live off my stockpile for a while. My guess is my husband is planning on beer $ in case of a natural disaster. Roll

I understand the point clearly. I'd put more away if I could afford it. What's the general estimate of what you're keeping?

You should also keep your car filled at least half-way, have a get-home bag, etc.

I think you're smart to keep a cash supply, but some of us just don't have any extra funds.
