One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Please tell me The Fighter was not as bad as Buried. Because Buried was so horrible. It Was really a guy making phone calls in the coffin.

I was really looking forward to The Fighter too.
Didn't see Buried, but I loved The Figher, it's one of my favorite sports movies now

"Glory to the Filmmaker" - A very silly Japanese comedy by Takeshi Kitano. There were a couple moments where I laughed out loud. It was kind of like a Japanese Monty Python movie. It was probably a bit longer than it needed to be, but there were some oddball funny parts.

"Hidden Fortress"
- One of the better classic Japanese films I've seen in a while.

"Getting Any"
- Another Kitano movie - very stupid. It was kind of like a Japanese "Kentucky Fried Movie"

The Fighter - loved it.

Creeps me out how much Conan O'Brien's sister, Kate, looks just like him!

I wondered if someone who hasn't read the trilogy would enjoy these movies. Did you see the first movie "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"? Based on how much the movies were cut down, I can't imagine just watching this with no background information would be satisfying. I liked the movies enough, but I think only because I already had the complete story from the novels.

Have Buried from Netflix, might watch it late tonight.
No, but if it was in any way depressing I probably wouldn't have liked it. laugh out loud Maybe it's just me getting older (and older) but I used to watch everything and now movies with depressing subject matter are not for me.

The Town: Pretty good but about 30 minutes too long. 8.5/10
True Grit: Pretty good. I watched it because everyone here seems to love it. For some reason, I keep thinking that there will be some sort of twist at the end, which there wasn't.
Iagree with you about "The Town". It would have been a lot shorter if they cut out 75% of the cursing. It wasn't needed, neither was Ben Affleck. First, keep the subtitles on because what is up with the fake Irish and I must slur all of my words accent. Did you notice that jogging suits were the jeans of that town? I did like the crazy one, Jeremy Renner, he made the movie interesting. Ben, talked, and talked, wore more jogging suits and talked some more. Oh then you have "the florist" with the Joker's smile stitched in his face vomit.

"Beverly Hills Chihuauah 2", ok dogs and puppies running around and it's mostly a father story with a fashion show in the middle. That's it. One was better.

Up on deck, "Death Race 2".

I love how he goes for the akward peace be with me fighter image. not really sure about himself or his lines. just kinda talk acts. almost as painful to watch as his acting in the happening.

In the Heat of the Night (1967) - Excellent film. Loved the TV show and never knew it was a movie with Sidney Poitier that won Best Picture. Really good.

Ok, just finished Buried, and what a depressing, suspenseful movie. Pretty much just one character and one location for the entire movie, not for the claustrophobic. I had to see it for myself, and it was alright to watch, but I wouldn't say I enjoyed it. Nor would I watch it again.

Agree! Some might find this movie good, but I just kept waiting for a new scene. (Hoping anyway). Pretty much one actor, same scene, depressing ending. For me, it was a waste of time.

A movie a few years old that I HIGHLY recommend is "The Illusionist". For me, one of the best movies I have ever seen. Great story and suspenseful.

If you liked The Illusionist, you'll love The Prestige.

Secret I swear I still have to take a couple minutes to remember which was which. They both came out at about the same time. Both are good flicks.

Great Danton FTW!

Going the distance - Cheesy flick. Long and Barrymore did not have chemistry on screen. 2.5/5
