When I was a cashier at Harris Teeter years and years ago (back when every transaction wasn't a credit card), I would figure the change in my head before looking at the register, just to give my brain something to do
There was no counting up to the change...
grab a penny $2.55
2 dimes........ $2.75
1 Qtr ............$3.00
2 dollars....... $5.00
I would just see the change due...then I'd grab the coins and bills as needed
1 qtr........$0.25
2 dimes ..$0.45
1 Pennie .$0.46
2 Dollars .$2.46
Hand Change to Customer
