Does having a fancy smart phone with a 3-5" screen make you feel important?

7,353 2,746 July 28, 2011 at 09:28 AM in Question (3)
Otherwise why do you pay for data to look at a screen that small?

Thanks for inviting me to this thread. laugh out loud

My top 10 reasons:

1) quick reference
2) quick look at your recipe while cooking
3) getting directions when you're lost
4) finding out all the events in your neighborhood
5) locating the nearest coffee shop
6) paying your bills in an emergency
7) depositing checks remotely over your phone and not have to go to the bank.
8) paying bills remotely with your phone using QR codes and not having to use magnetic cards
9) for watching movies and playing games when you're stuck at the airport

and last but not the least calling up your spouse and watching her through a video call.

My TV is 26in in my bedroom and it's HD. I would agree with 1080p being worthless on the TV, but not HD in general. I wouldn't be able to game on a CRT set, but it I definitely can on this TV. I can also notice a vast difference in picture quality watching the HD channels that come over the air. BIIIIIIIIG difference.
I started getting worried that I was the only one with a smaller TV here. Mine is 32", and I heart it. It is the first HDTV I've ever had. I always wanted a newer gaming system, but knew there was no way I would buy one to use on a tube TV, I definitely wanted an HDTV first.

Although I did make sure to research first and not waste the money on 1080p for a smaller TV.

I'm loving how he thinks his 14" laptop is huge! Roll My mom wants a laptop, and there are so many deals for 15", I was telling her to wait and find a deal for 17" because I'm not sure how she would like a smaller one. laugh out loud I don't know if I've seen a laptop so small. Maybe netbooks?

Also, OP says a 40"+ LCD/LED/Plasma TV would be bigger and take up more space than his 34" tube TV, but from what I know about those old TVs is that they are much bigger. So it may take up more wall space, but it won't be sticking out taking up half of your floor space. Heck, you can even mount it to the wall, and it barely takes up any space at all! nod

I've had a 15.4in notebook and now I have a 14in notebook. My MacBook is 13in. I honestly don't notice the difference between the MacBook or the Dell I had now. This laptop weighs significantly less than my 15.4 and it wreaked havoc on my back in my backpack. 17in would be waaaay too big for transporting it as often as I do.

Different strokes for different folks. This thread definitely proved that tonight. Smilie

The people that annoy me the most with smartphones are the ones who don't use them. Like at all. And by that I mean when I ask what they use them for, they tell me just to "call or text". You know....something every single other phone on the market can do.

I mean with Verizon, you HAVE to pay for a data plan with a smartpone ANYWAY, yet the friend I know never uses the browser, or even had his Google account setup (for Market and etc.) on his Droid Incredible. I sometimes have to show people what kind of power they hold in their hands. I don't get some people. You pay for the service anyway, yet just waste the money.

I guess this might be a valid point. Everyone I hang out with uses their smartphone for stuff a smartphone can do. But I don't really hang out with any stupid people.

But I think we've all overlooked the real reason for smartphones here, and the real reason any amount makes it worth it......Angry birds. Whee
^^this^^, but it's only on my iPad. Wouldn't want to scrunch those little birds down on my tiny 4.3" Evo 4.

Quote from Landers :
Though, I have a suspicion that OP is just trolling, I'll answer anyway.

No, it doesn't make me feel important, it keeps me organized.

Email, Contacts, Calendar, ToDos, GPS and thousands upon thousands of apps that can be used for anything for small gaming to pass the time, increase productivity, look up restaurants and even book reservations.. etc.

My question to the troll OP: Why wouldn't you use a smartphone?
I run a small business and bringing in my briefcase to schedule every appointment would get old. My Evo keeps my calendar synced with my computer. So I can then schedule via the cloud with my employees. I also take photos of fabrics and furnishings and send them to a client three hours away. If I get their approval, I can save myself a 5 hour road trip to go back for the item. I also can take card payments using my phone. It goes straight to my bank, another gas guzzling trip saved.

I can pay bills when I am out of town, even communicate with my insurer if needed. The camera has the same mega pixel as my Nikon DSL and many of the control features, plus a video recorder. It has Google maps that are updated by satellite, for free. All the time. I don't have to remember plug in to the mothership and pay for an update.
I check the weather and in my neck of the woods, we like to see the hurricanes on a map in motion. Especially as they like to turn about 30 miles off the coast.

My EVO screen is 4.3". My phone can kick your phone's butt (and it has a kickstand). Cool
Hell yeah!! My phone is big and yeah it has a kickstand to hold all of it's awesome power.

Quote from Curtieson :
Wait.....

Is it Small or Huge? Make up your MIND!

Also...FYI to all in here...there is only 1 phone on the market with a 5 inch screen (someone answered 4-5 inches). Most new ones are 4 to 4.3....most of what we have in our pockets right now (unless you bought in the last 4 months) would be 3.5 (iPhone) to 4 (everything else)
Evo4 purchased 2 weeks ago. 449.00-150.00 re-up=299.00 - 200.00 INSTANT rebate=99.00-70.00 customer loyalty credit (one months bill)=29.00 -38.00 buy back on my Hero so I will still have a 9.00 credit on next months bill. My data plan is the everything plan for 69.99/ month.

I coupon and I always shop with a list and yes I have an ap for that.

Have one of those as well.

And a shitty TV!

It's 34" and weighs 300lbs!

And he keeps them all in the shitty bat cave . His wife is upstairs in the big house with her smart phone.

PS. I even have an app called Liquor Run.. It tells me the closest liquor selling establishments, over 1000 drink recipes, and an alcohol content and calorie guide for hundreds of beers.

Oh no. He is generally not the brightest of the bunch, I can assure you. My other friends do actually use their smartphones and their data plans. But even when I told him I could help him set up his market account he's like "No that's okay.". I told him it would literally take 30 seconds. Still didn't want to do it, and asked me if I could log in with my credentials. So you can use my account to buy shit? You're not that great of a friend...

He's Mr.Paranoia that thinks the government is out to get him or something and is afraid of his personal data. Yet he has a facebook. With photos tagged. And is in the military.

I don't understand some people, and sometimes I don't want to bother to understand their flawed logic.

No it doesn't make me feel important. It's convenient and comes in handy.
