Hormonal changes happen outside of pregnancy, too.

If you're trying to get pregnant, definitely talk to your OB/GYN about it - they'll have more information than we do.

Let's put it this way.....if you can answer this scenario then you qualify as a doctor more than our previous OB...here ya go. Answer this as best as you can.
Scenario: You're 36 weeks pregnant, and you go in for your routine visit with your OB discuss your birth plans. When the OB asks you how you feel you say "I've been having contractions for the last 24 hours, but they aren't intense. HOWEVER, they don't feel right. They are more painful than I remember with my last pregnancy, and I KNOW they are not Braxton-Hicks (sp?)."
Do you.....
A. Laugh and ask "And how do you feel about that?" and then go on to talk about how you're retiring from OB practice in a month, or do you
B. Do an exam?

Sadly I know what a real miscarriage is all to well.

Not all doctors are great - if you don't like one, you can always go find another one. I've been to doctors I don't like (I about slapped one that tried to give me antibiotics when my son had the flu!

And antibiotics for the flu!
They took my bloodwork and never bothered to call me back with the results

As to your question:
I would do an exam. However a miscarriage is really sharp pains; like stabbing.
If she did have a miscarriage and no gray matter came out I suggest she see an obgyn. You can get so many infections from not getting a d and c. Worst.Thing.Ever.
