That's actually a really good question. I stand by my original statement meaning that once you've seen a common sexual act hundreds (thousands?) of times it's pretty much all the same with a little different look perhaps. I do honestly believe that this will lead you to looking to see what else is out there.

Fetishes and perversions very well could come from being desensitized, I obviously haven't done any studies or much research on why they would develop. I simply state what makes sense to me.

Not to state that I think that pr0n is bad, but I think that viewing enough of it really could "rewire" you to a degree. I think this would also be tied to being desensatized to the images. I suppose this could coalesce into activites/perversions in a real life setting but that would of course require more exposure to it I would think.

Again though, excellent question.

I suppose it depends on the person. I like the same old stuff I always have and have never gotten bored with it or felt it didn't cut it any more. But I'm the same with partners--I don't get bored being with the same person; in fact, experience has much more the opposite effect.

I don't think so. I think it's more likely that growing up in and living in a culture that simultaneously demonizes and worships sex does more to push people in that direction (or just confuse them a lot). Constantly glamorizing and pushing sexual images in people's faces while judging them as bad if they respond to them can't be psychologically healthy or conducive to people figuring out their own sexuality.

Not that I have anything against fetishes, preferences, or perversions, mind you: I just think it would be better to be accepting and honest about ourselves and others.

Thanks! I actually know several people that I believe have been desensitized by an over-abundance of Internet Pr0n. I know of two marriages that broke up, one because one spouse was "addicted" to Web Pr0n, to the neglecting of their family and work, and another that wanted more "unusual" sex and their partner was just not down with it.

I wonder at what point a person becomes tolerant of anything - even things that they used to find immoral or abhorrent? I think, to some degree, we have become this way about many things (violence, revenge, lies, etc.) because of TV, the Web, and the overall "shrinking" of the globe. Some Reality TV takes things too far for children, IMHO.

I I think that being in love with one's partner and sharing an emotional bond has much to do with commitment and long-term happiness with your sex life.

Our society does tend towards intolerance when it comes to sexuality.For instance, sex sells has long been the motto underlying much of the advertising in our culture, but their is a very fine line in what we consider, sexy, attractive, funny, or too much.
