Quote :
The victim told investigators David befriended him while she was volunteering at Katy Taylor High School and asked to be his friend on Facebook.

The victim said he and David then began communicating via Facebook, e-mail and text message on a regular basis, and their conversations were often sexual.

According to court documents obtained by KHOU, David sent the teen two lewd photos of herself on Oct. 14.

Investigators said David was completely nude in both photos.
Why has it become more and more common for women to try to have sex with little boys?? Confused

I assume that the people saying that this is not a crime, and that 16 is not a "little boy" are not, in fact, parents of a 16 year old boy. I am the mother of a 16 year old boy, and if some adult woman sent nude photos of herself to him, you're damn right I'd call it a crime.

yeah...and I think back to when I was 16....where were these horny women at???

I hate these kind of stories. They start off talking about a 16-year old boy getting a peek at some nakie pics of his friend's mom, and then they start talking about a "victim" and I gotta go back and figure out who the hell they are talking about. Ranting

Agreed. It's ridiculous to call this a crime.
Really guys? How about if it was a 40 year-old single dad sending cell phone pics of his dong to a 16 year-old girl? How long would you want to put him in jail for? How about if it was an older male sending a younger male these pics?

Double standards like this are starting to really bother me. Not so long ago I'd have been on the same side of the fence as everybody saying "haha way to go young guy HIGHFIVE" but I've arrived at the opinion that abuse is abuse regardless of the gender of the abuser or the victim. And whether 16 is "legal in some states" or not, it's too young for a 40 year-old, period.

4+ people chiming in to "clearly" make the same "joke" tells me that even if people really do think they're being funny, the issue's still being trivialized in a harmful way. Consider: you hear this story on the radio, you laugh or make a joke like you made, and you move on, it's out of your mind; you don't make it part of your research when you vote for your state senators and representatives (or your local sheriff) and it happens again to another kid... or, you tell a joke, I call you out on it, causing you to re-evaluate your opinion & something gets changed next time you're (hopefully) researching who you want to elect.

Or, you decide I'm taking life too seriously, and you move on. I'll err on the side of changing a mind & speaking out about things I believe in every single time.

Ah I get it. You finally decide to take voting seriously and now it is your job to convert the world.

Does your crusade stop with this or can I count on you to call out every poster who makes an off-color joke or sexist comment or makes a joke about women in the kitchen or who flirts with another member who is married....etc. ?

No. You also cannot count on me to find the same things funny that amuse you, nor for me to care deeply about things that are important to you. I'm different from you, I have different opinions and I care about different issues. Today it's you making a joke that offends me; tomorrow I might be poking fun at something you hold near & dear. It's that contrast that makes the world an interesting place for me.

I will say this, though - there have been several debates right here in the Lounge that have changed my opinion for (I think) the better. I don't call anyone or anything "retarded" since Bella was born & CM asked us not to; I was raised conservative with the belief that labor unions were kissing cousins to Communism - but after reading some of Schooby's adventures I've backed off from that point of view a bit.

So let me ask you this: if CM or Schooby (or a couple others whose examples escape me just now) had been afraid to speak up because they were worried that someone would make fun of them for it, do you think I'd have changed my mind, or might I still be blaming "retarded labor unions" for various problems today?

I'm not necessarily on a crusade, man. I just see something I don't agree with & I'm not okay with keeping my mouth shut anymore. The voting example was in the way of illustrating a possible path for social change; I'm not suffering under any illusion that something I say might actually cause a shift in the makeup of Congress. But maybe it changes one person's mind just a bit, and opens the door a crack for some more change to sneak in... who knows. Dontknow My dad told me once that he thought maybe his whole purpose in life was to have me, so that I'd have a kid who has a kid who has a kid who does something important in this world. Maybe. Or there's that old idea that maybe my reason for being here is to kick a rock 5 inches so that somebody else comes along and kicks it a little further, and so on until that rock rolls down a hill and flattens a village. Or something. Who knows.

tl;dr - I have opinions!
