We don't know if he simply didn't like the pics, someone found them (unlikely), or if he felt uncomfortable enough to tell someone. My guess is he was uncomfortable and told. That fact that she got as far as friending him on FB and sexting with him is a testament that women can groom/manipulate just as well as men.
Drawing from my own experience: I was, variously (and sometimes all on the same day): jealous, anxious, insecure, callous, aloof, arrogant... in short, I was immature. Now take a woman who's had more than twice as long as that 16 year-old kid to figure out how to manipulate another person, and add in a confused young man, admittedly full of hormones and hornier than a billy goat - who KNOWS what kinds of emotional scars that kid could wind up with? You think she was only sending pictures? How about texts saying God-only-knows what sorts of crazy things and this kid is believing all of it because not only is she an attractive woman who's interested in him, she's an ADULT, an authority figure, someone who represents responsibility and structure and propriety...
I bet you money that kid winds up in therapy at a minimum.
It's NOT different for boys. Look at how crazy people are over that Penn State situation. The real shame there is that the outrage is really about the homosexual aspect rather than the age difference. But what kills me is that the ONLY situation in which people joke and laugh instead of being horrified is when it's an older woman and a young man; older man/young girl is awful - older man/young man is awful - older woman/young girl is awful - but since society continues to perpetuate this stereotype that adolescent males are walking erections (and somehow as a result therefore less valuable/teachable/worthy of attention, among other things) this story gets a hearty chuckle and lots of guys high-fiving each other instead of the actual anger that should be produced.
