Poll coming

At what age do you think you will be able to retire? I am curious to see how optimistic the SD community is.

SAHM directions Please indicate the age that you think your GTWD (go to work Dad) will be able to retire. I know most of you work hard during the day, but that's not what I am asking about Smilie

Yeeeeup. Mad

I don't have much money, but I do know how to manage the money I have. I also use to have a lot of money before I gave up what I was good at to do what I got my degree in. My savings got us through a lot we wouldn't have otherwise been able to get through.

I say this because I know how to make my money work for me, and the funny thing is that MIL use to be loaded before the market collapsed. Had she listened to me and my warning and invested like I told her to invest, she would not only still be a very rich woman, but much much richer than she was. Now she's just so so rich. So I tried to save that woman millions, and she writes DW out of her will because we moved. That's quality character right there if you ask me.
No, quality of character is expecting a parent to leave you money when they die and getting pissy when they write you out of their will.

Good point, I probably should've made 75-80 , and 81-85 brackets to vote on.
That was not intentional..

I guess in our grandparents' generation, when they had pensions, it was not uncommon to retire at 65 or earlier. I was wondering how many people still had that vision.

My grandfather retired at 53, lived off his pension until 88 laugh out loud He made out good.
I just hope to invest smart enough and have enough in my 401k to live off of when I retire. No pension at my company.

I don't mind working, but winning the lottery and retiring at 30 on a beach somewhere would be ideal. Wink

Oh I'm sorry. I forgot we were having a dialogue and that you actually know me. But if you don't mind, please point out where I said I was expecting her to leave us money. I was also wondering if your parents would allow you to come over and babysit for my kids while DW and I go to McDonald's to grab a McRib.

I think you're awesome for being able to tolerate her hug, but please stay away from the mcribs.

If you can't afford a baby sitter with all that money you say you could make then shame on you.

I can't......they typically charge per child per hour. It's that multiplier that gets me every time.

Should have thought of that before you loaded up on all the children.

I think you're great hug. A little crazy, but that's ok. I'm a little crazy too, but that's a good thing. I'd be insane otherwise Whee!!!

I was thinking about you and the number of folks in my family that will have to work to support you when you're a crazy cat lady living on medicaid.

You're Welcome

After a reassessment of your situation, I think I'm going to have to go find DW and see if we can't try for triplets again.

Why stop at just triplets? Go for the nonuplet record!

Because I've gone this long w/o gov't assistance, and I don't want to break the cycle. Nono1

No Medicaid or cats. I retired at age 53 (good pension, frugal and good with money.)

You bragged about how much richer you could have made your MIL if she'd only followed your advice. Then commented on the quality of character of you MIL because she left your wife out of her will. Sounds like you were mad your MIL cut your wife out of her will and did not take your financial advice and I said as much.
