The bottles, insulators, and mason jar thread and other cool finds (even bunnys fans)

Well it was an estate sale but kind of like a hoarders place. The lady and guy running it said there was about 1/4 of what had originally been in there. I got a big industrial westinghouse fan for $3 and an assortment of telegraph insulators an old glass clorox bottle for $4. My wife got an antique mirror they had priced at $25 for $10. she said she could tell by the glass it was old.

The green insulators are fairly unusual from what I have seen but I have no idea what ones are valuable.

For the more common as least valuable I bet there are a million things someone with imagination could come up with. I like the lamp idea. Here is another that I came across that would be simple to make.

I've also seen smaller ones used as coat racks. Sometimes they're attached to a plain wooden board but occasionally you'll see them attached to their original wooden pegs and crossbeam. Or the original wooden pegs attached to a flat board to fit better on the wall as a lot of the crossbeams the pegs were originally attached to are too chunky/big to hang on the wall.

Green insulators are more common, unless they're an usual shade of green or a rare size, shape or brand of insulator.

Yeah, green is probably the most common color I have seen. I meant to say that the ones that would be called "7-up green" are fairly unusual. Then again, maybe some colors are more common in different areas.

There is a stretch of highway that I drive down about 6 times a year that has a stretch of abandoned power line along side of it for maybe ten miles. Over the years I have watched it deteriorate and the poles lean and sag and eventually fall. Most of these poles still have the glass insulators on them. The wires are long gone but I think there may still be some traces of them here and there.

Perhaps my strangest collection of things is my accumulation of belt buckles. I still have a few from back in the 70s that I actually wore on a regular basis. And despite now having a collection that may top 500 buckles I haven't worn one since. laugh out loud

One of the interesting things to me is the bizarre variety of subjects that were picked to make belt buckles.

I've never owned a Ford Fairmont but even if I had I don't really think I would have been proud enough of it to also advertise it on my belt buckle:

Three dimensional vehicle buckles have always been one of my favorites.

A lot of lines are left to rot but there was one line in good shape out in West Texas along a railroad line. There were several insulators I wanted off that line but when the railroad company decommissioned the line and came out to tear up the tracks they leveled the raised track by burying the railroad ties and all the cross beams with the insulators still on them in the ditch that had run alongside the track and pushing the raised earth into the ditch. So short of doing a lot of digging and looking for ones that didn't get broken, you were SOL. Annoyed

Not sure now is the best time to sell but depending on your pricing who knows.
Personally if i buy something for 5-10 and ive recently seen them sell for $70 -80 i probably wouldnt hold out for getting that much. I might even go as low as $50 10 x profit is plenty for me. Maybe ill find another , maybe ill find 10 more at $5

ON CL now you can now make one ad and then you can actually click one button to repost it. You login and it shows you what listings you have and its pretty easy to keep track.

Do the consignment thing at an antique store. Your taking up space at a dealer or go the fleamarket route , or rent a booth in some big warehouse. and have your stall open at weekends. Really depends how much personal time you want to commit. The more time the more control you have over price.

Sorry pic is kind of high def Zoe i have a couple of others if not clear. From what ive read green is really rare and one is being sold for close to $500 not same as mine though.
- oh i thought it would take longer to load.

They are apparently called 7up green - Hemmingray - 9
The one on the left is 7-Up green or some people call them bright green. It might be worth $15 to $20 if it's pristine, no chips, cracks or missing teeth. The other two are pretty common. The one in the middle really isn't worth anything because that size and style is the most common and it's missing teeth. The one on the right might be worth $4-$6 if it's pristine. Sorry, you won't be able to retire on them but they're nice to sit on a windowsill and admire the sun shining through them. Smilie

This is a good website to figure out what you have and to get some questions answered.

Did they advertise it as a junk sale from a hoarder?

Not even a mention of that it was advertised like a regular estate sale but i was talking to the people running it and they told me all the work they had to do from the past Thursday.

Amazing what you can get out of loungers when you post an intelligent thread Wink

Theres a cool looking one next weekend . Alot of the pictures seem to be the kind of things that we normally buy or you would see them find on American Pickers but that might be a bad thing. If they have pictures of things they know have value they may have prices to match.

I rescued one of these last year. Apparently I never took pictures of mine and it is packed too tightly in the garage to get to it now but here is a similar one:

This one appears to be in slightly better condition on the outside than mine but it is close. I am missing the bottle cap catcher but they are available if I decide to restore it. Mine is a 1936 model.

Restored it would look more like this:

This restored one is a slightly newer model because the "Drink" sits above the "Coca Cola" and not flush with the top of the letters like in the first pic.

These were made in both a refrigerated model and just the cooler model like this one. I've considered everything from restoring this to original to converting it to a refrigerator to making a really cool tool box for the garage.

Those are kind of neat. Smilie

One correction to my previous post. I have always called the bumps on the bottom of the insulators, 'teeth' as that's what the telephone linemen I used to deal with called them. But the correct name for them is 'drip points'. You'll find a lot of regional terms for certain items and features.

Wish i knew more about coke stuff *sigh*

I see glass coke bottles but who knows if they are old or not or what they are worth. I think i read about a bottle recently that sold for $20,000

Last weekend one place was selling a plastic coke bottle holder and a metal one that held 6 bottles but they seem a bit high priced and I know coke often releases retro looking stuff.

Its the way language develops and the linemen probably almost have their own language in different parts of the country.

This one place was using the seats off old tractors like garden furniture.

I probably should stop buying mason jars LOL

Bought another 18 Blue Mason Jars- 3 were half gallon and the rest were pints and quarts for $40

and some more clear ones with glass lids at a different place

Got a small brown bottle that looked interesting TCW Co stamped on bottom
It was from TC Wheaton Co they made medicine and pharmaceutical bottles between 1900 -1940 dont really know much else about it. It must have had a cork stopper at some point.

This other green bottle is from Western Mineral Water Company stamped on the bottom and he word Camel stamped on the neck.

Also got a neat clear white insulator a Hemmingray 56 that had a funky looking top to it
