Twenty-some, I'd guess, those are mostly various prop swords and others I've accumulated over the years. I only have two that are original, and they're the kind the grunts would have used between about 1750 and into the 1800s, so I'm not sure about the date.

I used to have a bunch of Viking swords, but after doing the viking show for the Smithsonian, someone broke into the place those were being stored and stole them. I don't know what someone would do with those anyway--a lot of the time, we'll take a sword and make duplicates out of aluminum (beveling the blade along the side so it looks like it has an edge even though the "edges" are still pretty thick and not sharp at all). The real sword gets used for the closeups, but almost all the fighting is done with the aluminum ones.

I bet they'd look at you funny if you tried to recycle them.


But I still have the better ones, including the snake sword. I'd been in a shopping mall that I used to go to often enough, and there was a new store I could see upstairs where there was normally just real estate agents and similar non-store offices. The place was filled with a vast array of swords--far more types than I've seen in any catalog even--so I bought the snake sword and was going to go back for more, but when I did go back a few days later, the store was gone and there was no sign of it. Just my timing, I guess.

Though if any of them were going to speak up, I think it would be the one made from the Canyon Diablo meteorite. I think that one just has an interesting feel to it.


Today, apart from putting away one of the swords in the office, I am wielding a vacuum cleaner instead. (Woo!) I have one of those whole-house vacuums, which I thought was odd at first, but I appreciate the fact that all the dust gets exhausted out of the house rather than circulated around the room. The only drawback is vacuuming that last little bit behind closet doors because you can't close the door when you've got a big tube following you inside.

How long til it goes away? It's deterrent enough not to ever have an infraction again so I don't have to have my eye drawn to the left every 5 seconds. It's distracting.

Got the place cleaned up and now my friend is having a movie party down in the theater (I got everything set up for them and then snuck off). I hear loud screams coming from down there now, so that either means that everything is going great...or very, very badly. As long as I don't have to do too much cleaning down there afterwards, I guess either way is okay.
