Yes you can. You will get the lowest selling price of the bra. But hopefully you used it on a current bra and you can get some nice $$. Just note that they don't include the tax back on your MC.
thanks azn. it's a brand new bra i think.
why don't you get tax back?! that makes NO SENSE. thanks for the warning - i would have been very confused.

I argued with them about this before. They said that since it's a gift return, they don't know where the product originated from, like say, someone from MN coulda given it to you and that person would've paid MN's tax, BUT CA's tax would be higher and they have no idea...because they would've refunded MN's tax rate, not CA's.

I just basically took it as they're keeping the tax dollars. shake head

i see the issue, i guess. they should still at least refund you the lowest tax rate in the US. i guess they can argue that it could have been international then, huh. shake head

what if i exchanged it for something else? will it be any different?

I did returns with a receipt from 2008 last year and they did it as a gift return and gave me lowest selling price. I did get them to change the price to the correct amount. But the the tax, they sent it back but not the correct amount, it was. like 1-2 dollars less, so I just said forget contacting them. Lesson to self send stuff back sooner.

Plus there are areas with no tax on clothing, such as NJ or MA, and CT til a month or so ago.

question:
as an out of towner at a wedding, where would you rather stay? at a hotel with slightly nicer rooms that is not in "old town" (a popular area of town with lots of shops/restaurants/bars/etc) (but close - 1/2 mile walk and they provide a free shuttle to anywhere in the area. it's close to a mall that has a few shops but is not as fun), or a hotel in "old town" that has slightly more run-down rooms (no shuttle). same cost.

or a nicer hotel with smaller rooms at a higher cost ($20 more), also not right in old town but also has a shuttle. (i've more or less ruled this one out already because of the higher cost, assuming people who travel will appreciate the price break)

I know that if you exchange something that you paid money for, whenever you send in what you want to return, the shipping guys process it normally and you'll get your tax back, but if you call in the exchange, the CSR processing your order will tax your item.

I don't know about trying to exchange something of a gift for something of $$. I'm assuming once you send it in to return, with a gift return form, the shipping guys will process it as a gift and still not give you your tax back. Unless you have the return part of the invoice, I don't think they will give you your tax back...

You can give them a call, though I know you hate calling them nod

If you take it to VS's bank then yeah but if I cash it at my bank they want my bank acct number in case it does not clear so they can take it off my account. Thanks to all those that keep bouncing checks left and right.
