what is BargainBob doing in this thread? He doesn't seem to care about F1 and he's certainly not
The only Formula One race I watched this year was the Indy 500. And that was only because my friends sister was in it.

although the news today says the fire chief didn't go now.
Why did they chose to go to the Silverstone race instead of Canada? Sounds like a junket type of trip but maybe with the Olympics coming up it's a good learning opportunity for them with more security and preparation.
I hope it doesn't rain for the first race in Austin..

The odd thing is, they did improvements to Silverstone about 10 years ago and supposedly fixed the roads (bad access) and the car park and camping area flooding issues at the same time. Dontknow

Dontknow to some extent. I believe some people did go to Canada, the county folks may have paid for themselves to go. the difference, i think, is that Austin's track is out in the country with only rural roads for access, similar to Silverstone, while Montreal is central to the city and presents fewer logistical challenges in getting people from the big hotels to the track nod

Yeah, Silverstone is a purpose built track whereas Montreal is a temporary street track. Yet even with the $60m upgrade, Silverstone is a nightmare for access and parking. Maybe they're going to get an idea of what not to do. laugh out loud

True but part of that $60m was to redo the track so it wouldn't flood. Stick Out Tongue

Formula One teams will tear speed limits apart as they race around the Kremlin this Sunday.

Three Formula 1 teams and their drivers are participating this year: Giancarlo Fisichella from Scuderia Ferrari, 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton from Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes, and Charles Pic from Russian team Marussia F1.

A Formula 1 Grand Prix event will be held in Sochi in 2014.

I wonder who picks the drivers. You would think that Petrov would be the one picked to go race and show off there as well. I guess that scary lady (his agent) wasn't involved in the discussions.

Various tidbits of good news...

The Williams mechanic "Barney" who was the person most seriously injured in the fire was at Silverstone last weekend but just watching the race from the pit. They said it will still be a while before he's back to work.

Villota is reported to be doing really well and has been moved off the intensive care ward.

and...

Ma Qing Hua became the first Chinese-born driver to test in Formula One on Thursday, completing 82 laps of the British Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone for HRT.

The 24-year-old Ma was on the track on the first of two days of a young driver test on the site of Mark Webber's F1 win on Sunday.

The Chinese touring car champion last year, Ma has previously competed in Formula Renault, A1 Grand Prix, Formula Three, and Superleague.

HRT team principal Luis Perez Sala believes Ma has a bright future.

"It's not easy to drive a Formula One car and he made no mistakes," he said. "We want to take things one step at a time with him and this test was for Ma to have his first real contact with a Formula One car at every level.

HRT need money to develop their car. MA = potential Chinese $$$ in terms of investors and sponsors.

After all their testing, they were able to get their Super License.

An F1 car sliced in half lengthways. Very interesting look at how the cars are designed inside.
