I'm no expert in credit score, but your credit score will go down initially because of the 'hard' credit inquiry. But in the long run, having a credit card is good as long as you pay the full balance on time. Your debt to credit ratio will decrease when you have more credit cards (and you don't use them often!)
I've got some Credit cards with CB and after I received initial CB, I've kept them lying there. I use them occasionally so they won't cancel my card. My credit score was not hurt. But you should not cancel old credit cards because it will hurt your credit score. These cards have no annual fee, so nothing to lose.
Closing an old card wont hurt you right away because it still reports to your AAoA. After 10 years when it falls off, then it will hurt your score.
Does anyone know when this offer expires? I'd like to get it but i'm not going to be making any major purchases until a little after June (when i'm married and we'll be buying furniture etc.) So could i just wait to apply until about the end of this month? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Buy gift cards at grocery stores and you will get 5% plus the 300 bucks. Not bad...
fantastic! I knew waiting another week would pay off. I just applied for another card for my father and he was "instantly approved". Saved the webpage and took a screen shot to make sure I got record of $300. Although I must mention that I applied in January and it was just $250 and a simple email to CS after I reached $500 in spending and they instantly gave me 5000 bonus points ($50) to match the 300 and now I'm waiting for the 25,000. Chase isn't that bad for now. They answer emails within a few hours and are pretty helpful. Plus their ultimate rewards store has huge bonus offers compared to citi. Citi has gone way way wayyyy down hill. they cancelled 40,000 TY points without warning and they claim it was listed as expiring within 90 days... it wasn't. they change ToS all the time so all Thank You members that have points from a few years back make sure to cash out cuz 3 years max even if you signed up with no expiration.
If you keep it, it has no impact except the initial credit inquiry during the application. If you cancel it, it will impact for a limited time, I think 6-12 month. Keeping it will actually help your credit since it increases your credit ratio. But if you don't plan to use your credit for anything, who cares if it drops 5-30 points, since it will rise back up in a year or so. If you plan on buying a house or a car, then I would not even attempt this.
Im in the process of buying a house, why shouldn't I get this offer?
Got this same bonus here about a month ago. Loaded up on gas (5% cash back this quarter) and other bonus items to hit the $500. I haven't received my 30k bonus yet, but it's still too early so I don't expect it until next month.
I'm a college student and I've never had a credit card before. Only have a debit card. I've been planning on getting a credit card soon but wasn't sure when to jump in. Will it hurt me in any way by jumping on this offer and what's the chances of me getting approved?
Do you have any other credit history besides credit card which you have none ?
If you don't, don't jump on it right away, as these cashback offers are for people with good credit score. Getting a credit card denied is a negative remark on your credit history. Try getting a regular credit card for now preferably from the bank which you have your bank account for a while, go in person there and don't apply online. Normally its easy to get a CC from there this way. Use it for a while (atleast 8-12 months) then apply this one...they have these kind of offers all the time..
Did this deal last time It came around, got my points at the end of the month, took less then 24 hours for the statement credit to apply on my first statement from them. Worked well, very happy with a new 1% Cashback card along with my 5% for gas from penfed.
i was wondering how the $300 dollars back works? Can someone briefly explain? Do i fill out a form or something.
You will receive 30000 pts that you can redeem as cash or gift cards. Most of the time the gift cards are credited at at discount so you can get a $25 gift card for $22.50 (2250) pts. You can also use the points to shop in the Chase Rewards store. This is a very good program.
