Also, I've got a sauerbraten roast in the oven for dinner tonight. Making potato dumplings to go with it.

I googled it and saw that you marinate those things really long. Apparently sober vviles is not too lazy to google things on her own

So Samsung just came out with some new models that have a much thinner bezel and *will* fit (finally) and I was in Sam's Club when an employee was bringing a cart of TVs to the clearance rack and what should catch my eye, but one of the new Samsungs. I asked him about it and he gave it to me without getting clearance tags stuck on it or any of that and we were out the door for $232.
It fits, got it set up and running along with a Samsung blu-ray player (I'd been prepared for this) and all was good. The mystery is why it was heading to the clearance rack, because it's a new model (not one they're clearing out) and it appeared to be brand new, just out of the box (still covered in plastic and all).
And after getting back and battling several hours with audio problems on one film, I've now discovered that the problems are there on the source tapes. Hmmm...so I'll have to rebuild the audio from elsewhere. Would have been nice if I'd thought to check for that possibility a day or two ago.
You have to make sure you use the right formula for the circumstances. For gunshot effects, you often use a pair of small explosive devices on the front and back of the actor to make it look like the bullet produces an exit wound, too. One time we were shooting at near-freezing temperatures and when the rear charges fired, it looked like angry red gummy bears launched themselves from the actors' back and then stuck on the wall behind them. We ended up thinning the mix with Gatoraid and redoing it, but each take of a gunshot effect like that is quite a bit of work (not to mention the cleanup afterwards).
If you need to, you can make workable fake blood based on liquid soap. Easier to clean up (by far), but not as realistic (and you have to be careful about the bubbles).

Yup. The most common types of fake blood are variations on corn syrup plus coloring. You have to make adjustments depending on the circumstances (temperature, delivery options, what you want it to do), but that's the standard. Sticky, and by the end of the day it's a lot like the outer coating of a candy apple.

Yep, that's less fun than you'd think. I've only been stabbed for real once and it was just a little bit. (Enough to draw blood, but nothing more serious than that.)
Looks good--yet, it seems vaguely familiar somehow.
That's a safe plan. I've been on the POA board for ages (mainly to counteract the type of people who try to get on POA boards) and I live in fear of the POA president deciding to step down. I think he does 90% of the real work and I pretty much just do enough research and stuff to make it look like I'm helping.
Who stabbed you IRL
