I think that Grimm's tales and the older Disney movies are great to teach kids morality. Look at Pinocchio. Yes it's scary as crap for a little one, but it teaches them to listen to their conscience. Scare the fark out of them while they are young so they don't do the stupid shit they want to do like run across a busy parking lot. They don't know the dangers out there yet and need to know to trust their parents. We sort out any of the mental damage the stories may have left with them as they get older and can look back, understand, and reason. It worked for DS1.
Yeah, I guess I'm just in a weird sitch because I want the stuff that scares kids into being good to happen for our kid, but since he's seen so many scary rated R movies already at his mom's and he's only 5, I just don't know what kinda boundaries are good anymore...

Like the scary stuff in Pinnocio isn't really that scary compared to Jaws or Preditor vs. Alien and those don't teach you a damned thing...except to kill things...

Well, I guess the practical reasons are:

kids get to see their mom.

saves money (the older ones are going to need post high school training/college/whatever soon) and this is the only way to finanicially swing it.

It is some help, to have another person help you drive the kids everywhere, etc.

But it's difficult.. I don't want to complain about it anymore (that's not productive). Very difficult at times.
I guess I just don't get how that sitch works...but I won't pry...I just like to understand family situations and how they got where they are now...

Exactly. There's not much difference between Grimm's tales and Aesop's fables, but there's a huge difference between Grimm's tales and a Predator movie. We prefer to have our kids to learn something if they're going to watch something.

I admire him for doing it for the kids. I don't know that I could handle it emotionally. It would probably break my heart, but those are the sacrifices we me make for our kids.

High Five I don't know what DD1's problem is. She just refuses to poo on the toilet. She'll pee all day long. I even put a bowl of prunes, a dvd player, and tv in the bathroom. She'll sit there watching Signing Time and Praise Baby for hours while noshing on prunes and still not go on the toilet. But as soon as she gets in bed......explosion!!!!

Yuppers, that's what we prefer too. Hell I've started cutting out the Disney Channel for the kid. Unless it's Phenius and Ferb, I don't really turn on the Disney Channel because it's all tween and teen dramas. I've just started having him watch Nature or NOVA or Disney movies or Electric Company. I think I'm gonna have Phrozt get Bill Nye and Arthur for the kid to watch because I'm tired of him just vegging and not engaging his brain when watching TV. He's getting down to less than an hour a night which is great.

if there was only a way to supplement your income

Confused

like something that was readily available, in great supply, renewable, that you could sell

that was yummy for some people to put on their cereal

hmmmmmmm
I wish you had something like that to sell for $2/oz............. Greedy

Netflix has Arthur, How It's Made, and the Electric Company.
