Um almost all religions have creation stories...he was trying to say not to limit your children's minds to creation but to look for the deeper explanation than someone or something just went Poof! and it's there...

Is it insulting to make fun of adults who believe in santa? If someone believes that the earth is 4000 years old in the face of science that can refute that with certainty, it becomes less about religion and more about opening your eyes. If someone is "insulted" because you call them out on teaching false nonsense, then their feelings aren't really worth considering.

But the story of creation doesn't give an age of the earth. That's a myth that, unfortunately, some Christians have fallen for, but that many non-creationists have attributed to creationists.

I'd like Mr. Nye to point out where in the story it points out that the earth/universe is X number of years old. As the story starts out, the earth and the universe already existed. When it says that in the beginning the earth was formless and void, it is proof that it already existed, and science supports that fact.

Well.....the youngest is in cloth diapers so he should be getting potty trained very soon. The 11 yo is obviously potty trained, and his 3yo brother is as well. But the 3yo girl refuses to drop a deuce on the toilet. She holds it in so long that when she finally goes it hurts. So she typically goes in her sleep after 3 or 4 days of holding it. She has some mental hangup about going so it's been difficult with her. But I've got three that pee on the toilet now and two that poo on the toilet. We are making good progress.
I know we talked about this before.. Don't want to bug you, but make sure the daughter that seldom poops isn't getting constipated .. One of my kids was like that and ended up with a blockage. It might be a good idea to give her 2-3 spoonfuls of mineral oil/day as a lubricant laxative.. that's basically what my kid was on for awhile after the blockage was treated. It will help her develop more regular habits, and it's harmless

It doesn't say it explicitly in the story, but "bible scholars" took the information from the creation story to do some math and "figure out" the age of the earth. I don't think anyone I know who keeps up with these things actually thinks there's a timestamp in the story itself. And if there are christians who think that, well that makes sense to me since I have rarely found a christian who's actually read any of the bible, let alone understands it.

Thanks for the advice. I may try that with the prunes and laxatives.

oh yeah, regarding the daughter that won't poop - definitely take jj's advice, because my mom's best friend's daughter DID have that problem as a child, it wasn't properly acknowledged and she did develop serious issues with her colon. at age 27 she still has problems with certain poop-related things (i don't dare ask what those things are) because of her fear of pooping as a child, which made her hold it so long that it backed up and caused a blockage, blah blah POOP

Yea, i never cared for Pinocchio much... The moral was don't lie and stranger danger that is what I got out of it...

I never got the point of those kids movies except for pure entertainment especially at that age.

It's sad to say, but you're right. Most don't read it. I'm on my 6th turn through it, and I sit down every night with commentaries and read it chapter by chapter and book by book. And just like any debate, there are scholars on both sides. I believe that an entity that exists outside of time is not concerned with time. The seven days of creation do not have to be interpreted as 24 hours. In fact they can't be if you follow the story and see that the word "day" wasn't defined until the fourth "day" of creation. Again, science doesn't refute it because there is no age given to the earth in the bible, and we have no way of telling how much time there was from where Genesis 1 begins and where the reference to day and night appear on the 4th "day".
