Not at all. You said he was bashing christians lately. Which is not what he was doing at all. He was saying that teaching creationism is doing a disservice to the children that are being taught this. I'd say that the two things are different enough that you are either misinformed, or were just plain wrong. There's no argument strategy, there's what he said and what you are unhappy about him supposedly saying.

You can certainly have dislike of anything you want, but when you say that you dislike the color green while you are pointing to the color red as an example, people might step in to correct the premise of your dislike.
I see your point, but I consider it bashing me for the decisions I make on how to raise my kids based on my religious belief. Telling me that I'm doing society and my kids a disservice for teaching them the bible is, in my opinion, bashing my religion. So do I take offense to it? No. He's not only entitled to his opinion, but he has the right to vocalize it. Does it anger me? Meh...a little. As much as any other insult that doesn't have a direct impact on my well being does.

I have to fall back on a CS Lewis quote on this one:

Quote :
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it, I see everything else.

I guess. But what if he were to say that the dietary laws in Leviticus were silly and outdated. Ignoring that this would upset Jews, would you be upset about it? (In the same vein that you're upset about the creationist thing.)
There are so many things in the Bible that are no longer relevant, (that many who follow the bible recognize are no longer relevant) I'm curious why creation is the sticking point.

There are so many things in the Bible that are no longer relevant, (that many who follow the bible recognize are no longer relevant) I'm curious why creation is the sticking point.

Those are valid points, but the bible is made up of prose, poetry, and history. Those outdated laws which are no longer applicable (that's a debate in and of itself as to which ones are and aren't) can be used for history. It's the history and the story of a people. Many times they were repudiated by God, Jesus, and prophets for their obsession with laws and blinding following the law instead of knowing the who and why behind the laws.

Creation is a sticking point for me like any other part of the bible. If I doubt any of it, then I am doubting in all of it. Without creation and Adam and Eve, you don't have original sin and the fall of man from grace. I still sin. I still get drunk. I still see more bewbies than I should. That doesn't mean I don't believe it. It just means I'm a hypocrite who is too weak to follow as closely as I should.

But the reason I read my bible daily is that I try to grow each day in my relationship with God and my understanding of him in order to be a better person to those around me. Every time I read my bible I discover something different especially when I'm using commentaries. I don't do it to take over what is taught in schools. When I have my own house in order, then I'll really worry about someone else's. In the mean time, I just need to not let my typical asshole self take over and try to be kind to others.

No toys. I have been too busy taking care of my two girls and trying to rebuild my life that sex is the last thing I think about.

I think you're an open minded person who's willing to look at both sides. I don't think you're the kind of person Nye was talking. I think he's fed up with people who simply don't want to try to understand the world in any other light or from any other POV. I don't think his speech was very eloquint...he's spoken much better at other times.

I think he just wants people to make sure their kids are thinking and not just blindly accepting a simple explanation for what happens. There's been a big movement toward blind following and believing in religions recently and thinking's kinda been put on a back burner. It's a common cycle...

But I'm pretty sure you encourage your children to look at things from as many POVs as possible and to think and question things. If when they got older and decided to figure something out on their own I'm sure you would support them even if it wasn't the way you saw things, because you want them to learn for themselves...

I think that was the message he was trying to get across...he just didn't do it well...

Oh man, I just had a great idea.. A TV show like "wife swap" only it would be "ex-wife swap"
So you find couples in arrangements like us, and swap.. the interesting thing is that there's a chance the newly swapped couples could actually hit it off.. like maybe at the end of each episode, there's some kind of vote on whether to extend the swapped arrangement.. Have the fans vote.. You could have someone pleading on TV.. "Please don't send my real ex back" laugh out loud
I love it!!
