Got a quick career question for you guys, or well for the ones, did you guys find a 4yr. University/College degree was enough for your specific jobs and would be good for life if you wanna say? Or did you guys ever have any regret, and thing I should have went for a Masters or PhD or some higher degree? I am wondering about this right now, because I only have a short while left of college, and seeing as how time has flown by, it really has me thinking about it.

I would have liked to have gotten a PhD after graduate school but I was married to an unsupportive douche Mad I'm a bookworm though- school's not for everybody. The time/money investment isn't feasible or attractive to many people. Can you get a job that would pay for a masters degree program? That's a smart move Glasses2

Actually, if I were to go to Masters/PhD route, I would TA, where school is paid for and you get paid extra for expenses as well. I am jw if it is worth it to got the extra mile, I have also considered working for a while and returning, where the place I would work at would pay for it as well, but I would really have to look for one of those. I am taking everything one day at a time or well that is my thinking, but I would like an opinion on how it was for you and the others out there.

I like school, it keeps me busy and out of boredom and doing bad things. It keeps me in check of my life.

Are your grades good enough to get some sort of fellowship?

School didn't keep me out of trouble Roll

I only have an associate's degree, so I regret not going to college. But just because I missed out on the college experience, plus lot's of businesses require a 4 yr degree in my career. So I'm kinda stuck at the job I got.

I say if you can get a job that will pay for the extra schooling then go for it. Or if they are great jobs to go with the masters or phd in your field then go for it.

For me - it would not pay to have a masters in computer science. Especially for the area of the country that I live in.

I only have my Bachelor's but I plan on going back to school for a Masters/Ph.D. I think it's really good to get out there and work a job for a while so you know what kind of things your higher degree is going to do to benefit you.

How close are you to finishing up? Have you done internships? Do you have job ideas or offers lined up for when you graduate?

Lots of people do the straight through to Ph.D because they don't really want to get out into the world, but real world experience is waaaaay more important in jobs/careers than the education so much. Even if you have a Ph.D if you have no experience, you'd end up getting a post doc somewhere and low pay for a bunch of Ph.D's to train you how to function in the real world.

Unless you plan on living in the world of acedemics, I'd say get a job first and save lots of money (incase you don't get an RA or TA-ship) and get some experience so that you know what routes you want to follow. Especially if you have the will power to make sure you go back to school. Keep it in your plans and work towards it and set a schedule. Hell your company may even pay for you to get your Masters or they'll at least send you to classes to help you do your job better.

Once Phrozt gets a secure job, I plan on taking my GRE's and finding a Ph.D program somewhere close by to go to. And then likely come back to my job with promotions and higher pay grades Smilie

That's awesome!!! Keep up the awesome work.

I've been really proud of myself. I've been eating better and staying in the 120-125 range instead of the 128-135 range I was in a while back!
