Yup, they're floor-standing tower speakers, about 3 feet tall. You connect the audio out from the TV to the receiver, which then drives the sound through these speakers. They've been in my media room for a few years now.

OK so, humor me here. You have 4 speakers, all of them floor-standing and 3' tall?

Care to take a picture of your set-up and email it to me? Smilie I'm curious how the speakers look.

The reason I ask is that I bought this 46" LCD HD blah blah a month ago, and I really need to complete my living room by getting a receiver and some speakers. Obviously, getting a 5.1 (or 7.1) surround sound system is not really in my budget. So I was wondering what a few used speakers and a new receiver would do for me.

It was formerly the master bedroom in the house, before the renovation. There's a 92-inch projection screen on one wall, in the middle of a small stage I built. It uses a computer (PC) to send video to the projector and sound to the amplifiers and speakers. There's a two-seat leather recliner/loveseat to get comfy while watching and/or listening.

Here's a picture from the Polk Audio web site. These were all the rage here at SD some years ago, because they give great sound at a low price.

These are the two speakers in the front ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

These are the smaller rear speakers, kinda their little brothers ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

The reason these were such a big hit here at SD is because they're efficient and provide great sound for TV and DVD watching. They'd sound great with an inexpensive name-brand receiver. In the bedroom upstairs, I only have one pair of the smaller R30's on either side of the TV and they make a helluva improvement in the sound.

but can you get a receiver and just get 2 speakers? the only thing i have experience with is with my ex-DH. he bought a 5.1 system (receiver + speakers) and then i bought a 7.1 system for his birthday. so i don't know anything about putting it together piece by piece laugh out loud

Do you have them hooked into a receiver? Or are they hooked right into the TV?

Most modern receivers are smart enough to do 2-channel stereo, even if they're 5.1 or 7.1 capable. Depending on the receiver, some of them require you to set it to 2-channel, the more expensive ones sense which speakers are connected.

There's a JVC receiver beneath the TV. TV-audio-out to Receiver-TV-in, to the speakers.
