Because I have an expensive hobby. I like to get out and shoot a few days a week. Running through a single clip of .223 is a $13 proposition, and I can empty it in about 10 seconds if I'm just having fun and not trying to practice.

Typically I'm firing my .22 though. It is MUCH cheaper to plink with.
