IDK, it depends on the person and is a hate/love food. Like my sis hates it, while me and my mom love this stuff.

To me, it smells really rich and floral/sweet, while to some others it smells just horrible.

Well... there are many different varieties, so I am sure there is one for everyone out there. I really enjoy the ones with a mix of nuts and seed inside them, very tasty with a bit of crunch.

I only had two kinds. One was the jelly-ish type... They had durian, jack fruit, and something else I can't remember at the moment. And then a lotus paste type with the same fruits.

I think the lotus paste one was green tea, maybe.

You should try it sometime. It may be expensive in your area? It avgs. about $1.50-2.00 a lb. in our area, with minimum poundage being around 5lbs a fruit. And then they are frozen, but if you just let it defrost, it can be eaten fresh like that.

You're better off for it, in my humble opinion.

Both make me want to vomit.

Durian, just the smell makes me nauseous now. I tried some mooncake, and it was all I could do to not gag in front of the nice lady that was telling us all about it. About a week later, there was this tasty looking peanut butter stuff that resembled toffee or fudge, and I decided to try some. NOPE. Mooncake. I almost lost it right there.

Is what you are eating really mooncake? Mooncakes are typically filled with a type of paste, either bean or tea variety, with an egg yolk in the center. However there are many different varieties to those as well, and same with the ones with nuts I mentioned before.

The jelly-ish type sounds like mochi and not mooncake.

For the most part they are only found in Asian markets... you cannot get them at American stores.

Well, the nice lady called it mooncake, and it was during the mooncake festival...

I was going to do one for liquid nitrogen ice cream, but the guy who was picking up the liquid nitrogen for me, instead of using my dewars, had them fill a large banged-up metal container that leaked. (Something like an old-fashioned milk urn.) True, it *was* bigger. But it was also empty by the time he got it here, which pretty much defeats the purpose.

I wonder if he could post a video clip laugh out loud
There's one out there, but I'm not sure you want to see it--it's probably my least attractive video appearance ever recorded. (I got a call from a friend of mine about doing the video, and he said he was heading right over so I just had time to get out of bed and gather everything together to make it happen. My voice sounds weird in it, too.)

But if you just ignore me, it's a pretty good video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU8iRYbnAb0 (That's Mark doing the voiceover on this one.)

I still have the knots of the napkins. (Yes, that's are all that was left at the end.)
