OK, So I have 5 shirts to give out...and here's how you can win one. Whee

I like fun (and/or weird) facts ( and I need entertaining) so go find some interesting and hopefully weird facts to post in this thread.

I will choose 5 (plus a few more for backups) numbers before I post this thread....then I will look through the thread and see if a fun fact falls on the number...if it's just chatter in that post and no fun fact then I will choose another. Only one shirt per person so if the winning number falls on your post twice...I will choose another.

Reposts won't count so if someone does a repost be sure to call it out laugh out loud Stick Out Tongue But don't all go crazy calling them out since that doesn't help you win a shirt.

Try not to clutter up the thread too much with chatter because I really want to read some interesting things today.

This might end later today or maybe tomorrow... or maybe the end of the week.

The contest has ended...Winners in wiki...but since I don't trust half of you I am also listing them here. Stick Out Tongue

DH often says that if he hadn't married me, I would have wound up with 27 cats. laugh out loud

So this won't be an OT post...

The very yummy Humbolt Fog cheese has a streak of volcanic ash running down the middle of the cheese. It is not the only cheese to include ash, some use wood ash, some volcanic ash.

Guess what I'm eating right now? laugh out loud

The true formal name of the famous statue standing in New York harbor is not "The Statue of Liberty". It was named "Liberty Enlightening the World" by its sculptor Frederic Bartholdi, who fashioned the statue's likeness after his mother.

body fat decomposes to adipocere (from the Latin, adipo for fat and cera for wax), aka grave wax, which is a yellow to white somewhat hard substance. your body could be in a plastic-like state with a consistency from being gooey as with a mushy bar of soap, to semi-soft like with a young cheddar cheese, to hard and grainy, as with candle wax.

The Art Deco spire of the Empire State Building was originally if impractically designed to serve as a dirigible terminal for Zeppelins and other airships to dock. Learned this on Pawn Stars the other night, when a Harmonica showed up with a Zeppelin on it Smilie

The word Texas comes from the Caddo tribe's word for friend. The first Spanish explorers spelled it Tejas, it was later anglicized to Texas.

And in the vein of Kristin's post...

One of the earliest forms of golf ball, dating from the 15th century was a leather ball filled with feathers which was then boiled to tighten up the leather.

Louisiana is the only state in the US that is divided into parishes. The other 48 states have counties. Alaska is divided into burroughs and census areas.
