A brand new poster child for pathetic athletes

2,324 261 August 6, 2012 at 09:47 AM

One of the worst examples of sportsmanship I've ever seen in my life.

Her coach should have smacked her upside the head.

I don't know the NBC commentator who jaw-jacked for 20 min before hand how Mrs Prissy Bitch was "so much better than everyone" else, but he should be fired immediately.

Not a shred of empathy for this over-privileged little sourpuss. What are you 9 years old? Try to remember this next time you fall flat on your ass: "gracious in victory, humble in defeat."

Didn't watch it, but maybe she was just mad at herself, not at the judges.

Maybe she has a neurologically based tic?

Awesome insight, here, OP.

Of course, others may have a slightly different impression of this elite athlete's response to a personal failure.

Despite her fall, McKayla Maroney shows true grit and grace in winning her silver medal in vault [yahoo.com]
Quote :
"I didn't really deserve to win a gold medal if I fall on my butt," Maroney said.

Not that she was discounting her silver. In that, she was adamant.

"I do appreciate it," she said. "I do appreciate it so much. It's not the silver medal that I'm disappointed about; it's my performance today that I'm disappointed about."
Being the best in the world and failing to perform at potential during what may be her only Olympic appearance is, understandably, disappointing. If you want to watch people pretend to be cheerful about losing, tune in to the Academy Awards.

We're judging her off one picture?

After she lost the gold, she shared a fairly long embrace with the girl who won it. That seemed fairly classy.

You must be new to watching sports.

You want her coach to physically assault her? Talk about ridiculous. There has to be more to your story for you to be so outraged, upset and judgmental over just this picture, right?

Uh, not so much. She just stood there stiff as a board while the Romanian gymnast hugged her and she appears to be covering up her silver medal in this photo taken during the medal ceremonies.

You must have no idea who Pierre de Coubertin was and did 100 years ago.

Note the Canadian who landed so hard she couldn't even complete her second vault due to pain. Watch her candor and spirit in the face of TRUE PAIN.

Of course not, but he *should* have told her to suck it up, at least TRY a fake smile, accept the fact that she blew it, congratulate the Romanian who won gold and accepted the praise from the bronze medalist who she tried to hug her and she didn't even acknowledge. Now I obviously wasn't there and cannot say for sure, but I did watch the NBC full coverage and did not see or hear him do anything of the sort.

Seriously? Give the girl a break. She says in interviews she's grateful for the silver, but is personally disappointed in herself about falling. She's entitled to be mad at herself.

Oh, also, she's 16! You try having the eyes of the world on you at 16, fall on your ass, and then be expected not to cry about it.

It does look like it, but it could also be a carefully selected picture to be fair.

Is a 16 year old an adult? Is she expected, as an Olympic athlete representing her country in the true spirit of The Games, to behave as such and not like a 9 year old who just had her puppy taken away?
