Dog chew toys that don't get them in trouble: Add your dog's favorites! (Thanks, daisee)

1. Fun stuff
- We leave empty cardboard boxes for the dogs to chew up. Also these loofah bones (cleans their teeth while they rip them apart) and TONS of cat toys (with catnip). (from veritableqndry)

2. Hard-to-destroy stuff

-At dollar tree they carry "milkbone" toys... she beats the hell out of them and still they hold up. (not to mention their only a buck if they destroy them) (from wakethewicked2)

- I've had good luck with these -- the avatar dog has destroyed everything but this kind. They come in different sizes and shapes and you can put treats inside for them to dig out: http://www.petmountain.com/produc...-kong.html . I get mine at a local farm store, but I'm sure you could get them at places like Pets Mart if you don't want to buy online. (from callpocket)

- Here are a couple that have survived Sophie so far:
  • Busy Buddy bouncy bone - We gave up on the rawhide inserts. She rips those out in seconds but likes the toy without them anyhow and cannot kill it.)
  • Everlasting treat ball -Again she pulls out the expensive inserts right off the bat...but she likes bouncing the toy. You can also hide dog kibble in the middle for the dog to try to get out, which entertains him for awhile. She hasn't managed to rip this one at all yet even though it feels soft and flexible.
  • Jolly Ball: - Ours is bigger than the one at this link. It's hysterical to see her stick her snout in the hole and wave the ball in the air. It's bigger than her head. She runs around the house with it on her snout, growling and acting like a maniac. I don't know why she can't chew it up, but she can't.
  • Then there are big Nylabones, which she can kill eventually. But they take a long time to die. (from olu)

Hm. So tonight we let Sophie play with this stuffed doggy toy that has a little squeaker inside. She can only have stuff like this when we are around to make sure she doesn't rip it up. She was on good behavior with it for a couple of hours. She'd just hold it in her jaws and give it little squeaks. No ripping.

Then I got distracted for a half hour or so. Now there is NO squeaky dog toy in sight anywhere, and she is lying around looking sneaky and not meeting anyone's eyes. This means either she swallowed the whole thing and we need to see the vet, or she has hidden it somewhere and will take it out and swallow the whole thing when we are not home to catch her. Rats.

Put him in the litter box, and help him scratch the sand/litter with his front paws. You may need to do this a few times a day for a bit. If that doesn't work, try changing the type of litter. Some cats are picky.

What my dog ate (sort of) today...

So, in bounds the notorious "newf" from the back yard, up the stairs, and to his water dish. He was very thirsty....so he gently let the TOAD!!!!! out of his mouth to have his drink. After his drink he picked it up again, and ran away to play with his new friend. laugh out loud laugh out loud laugh out loud

Food! My dog ate food! She's has been in renal failure for 3 months. She was in acute failure and the vet sent her home and said I had a day or two to say goodbye. After getting a consult with a pharmacist who specializing in holistic medicine, we were able to nurse her back to health and she's was doing well for the first 2 months. But she's been refusing to eat for weeks. She eats a few bites a day of her home made special diet and I force feed her vitamins and some other supplements, but she is so skinny now.
But she has eaten food for 3 days in a row! A decent amount! I am so happy right now, I am crying! I just need to get some weight on her and keep her eating. When she is eating, she is almost normal. When she stops, she starts to go downhill.

So this is the dog that never met a shoe or a wallet she didn't want to eat. She eats EVERYTHING. But early this morning, she was with me in the kitchen when a MOUSE ran by (ugh and argh!!!! time to get a mouse trap). Sophie just stood there and watched--completely unconcerned. No help at all.

Why didn't we get a cat instead?
