Dog chew toys that don't get them in trouble: Add your dog's favorites! (Thanks, daisee)
1. Fun stuff
- We leave empty cardboard boxes for the dogs to chew up. Also these loofah bones (cleans their teeth while they rip them apart) and TONS of cat toys (with catnip). (from veritableqndry)
2. Hard-to-destroy stuff
-At dollar tree they carry "milkbone" toys... she beats the hell out of them and still they hold up. (not to mention their only a buck if they destroy them) (from wakethewicked2)
- I've had good luck with these -- the avatar dog has destroyed everything but this kind. They come in different sizes and shapes and you can put treats inside for them to dig out: http://www.petmountain.com/produc...-kong.html . I get mine at a local farm store, but I'm sure you could get them at places like Pets Mart if you don't want to buy online. (from callpocket)

- Busy Buddy bouncy bone - We gave up on the rawhide inserts. She rips those out in seconds but likes the toy without them anyhow and cannot kill it.)
- Everlasting treat ball -Again she pulls out the expensive inserts right off the bat...but she likes bouncing the toy. You can also hide dog kibble in the middle for the dog to try to get out, which entertains him for awhile. She hasn't managed to rip this one at all yet even though it feels soft and flexible.
- Jolly Ball: - Ours is bigger than the one at this link. It's hysterical to see her stick her snout in the hole and wave the ball in the air. It's bigger than her head. She runs around the house with it on her snout, growling and acting like a maniac. I don't know why she can't chew it up, but she can't.
- Then there are big Nylabones, which she can kill eventually. But they take a long time to die. (from olu)

Yesterday my dog ate: The newspaper. And its bag. And the other newspaper and its bag. And the other papers we forgot and left on the counter. We had a welcome home confetti decorated front hall when we got in.
Why do they do it? He knows what he's allowed to chew and not. I can hold any item in my hand... if it's something he's chewed and guilty of, he hauls ass... if it's one of his toys that he's mauled and is allowed to chew on, he knows and is fine. This admission of guilt just solidifies that he KNOWS right from wrong...
But that's too funny and right on the mark about them knowing when they chew YOUR stuff: With ours, if someone walks up when she's chewing her own toy, she just wags and chews like she knows she's a good dog. But if she has something she shouldn't, she covers it with her paws and looks off another direction like she has no idea how it got there
my dog chews on stuff that he shouldn't when he's bored or mad at me. he definitely knows what he should chew on and what he shouldn't. he always knows when i'm leaving the house too, and if i've had a busy day and haven't been able to play with him much, i come home to ripped up stuff.
like the person above me, my dog gets so happy when i sit next to him when he's chewing on something that he's supposed to...his tail wags and he makes sure i'm watching his good behavior. but when i see him with something he knows he shouldn't be chewing on, he runs as fast as he can upstairs and under my bed and then does as much damage as he can before i take it away.
