Dog chew toys that don't get them in trouble: Add your dog's favorites! (Thanks, daisee)

1. Fun stuff
- We leave empty cardboard boxes for the dogs to chew up. Also these loofah bones (cleans their teeth while they rip them apart) and TONS of cat toys (with catnip). (from veritableqndry)

2. Hard-to-destroy stuff

-At dollar tree they carry "milkbone" toys... she beats the hell out of them and still they hold up. (not to mention their only a buck if they destroy them) (from wakethewicked2)

- I've had good luck with these -- the avatar dog has destroyed everything but this kind. They come in different sizes and shapes and you can put treats inside for them to dig out: http://www.petmountain.com/produc...-kong.html . I get mine at a local farm store, but I'm sure you could get them at places like Pets Mart if you don't want to buy online. (from callpocket)

- Here are a couple that have survived Sophie so far:
  • Busy Buddy bouncy bone - We gave up on the rawhide inserts. She rips those out in seconds but likes the toy without them anyhow and cannot kill it.)
  • Everlasting treat ball -Again she pulls out the expensive inserts right off the bat...but she likes bouncing the toy. You can also hide dog kibble in the middle for the dog to try to get out, which entertains him for awhile. She hasn't managed to rip this one at all yet even though it feels soft and flexible.
  • Jolly Ball: - Ours is bigger than the one at this link. It's hysterical to see her stick her snout in the hole and wave the ball in the air. It's bigger than her head. She runs around the house with it on her snout, growling and acting like a maniac. I don't know why she can't chew it up, but she can't.
  • Then there are big Nylabones, which she can kill eventually. But they take a long time to die. (from olu)

my dogs demolished the carpet by our front door. we CAN keep them in the kitchen while we're gone, but there is no indoor gate tall enough to keep both penned in. one of the dogs - the one that also does the carpet eating - can climb over every gate we've tried. 4 ft. tall is the highest, and she is only 12 inches tall! we're more afraid of her hurting herself doing that than carpet damage. sadly the kitchen does not have a door to it, otherwise we'd just let a cheap door take the damage.

we're renters, and paid $350 deposit for each dog (total $750). the way the carpet is cut in all one piece and the rooms are set up, you'd have to replace the entire carpet in the apartment. replacing 900 sq. ft. of carpeting seems like such a waste of money to me Frown alternatively, the door is in a corner and that is the only place there is damaged carpet. i wonder if we removed a 4 foot square of carpet by the door and got linoleum put down in that small section instead, if it would save us from having to replace the entire carpet at the time we move out. i've had similar entries in previous apartments, and it REALLY helps cut back on the crap initially tracked into the apartment to begin with. i'm sure we'd have to get approval first but if it looks good that way i don't see why the landlords wouldn't approve. i dunno.. just something to think about and for sure i'll ask when the time comes. for now we have one of those thick computer mats - with the prongy things on the bottom to keep it from sliding - covering the area and that is definitely helping to prevent further damage. (dogs haven't touched the carpet since we put it down about 6 weeks ago)

and yes - we were just inspected about a week and a half ago, so the landlord is aware of the damage to the carpet. i'm sure if they felt it was extremely bad they would have told us something, but we were told nothing.

I thought I had him convinced to leave MY stuff alone. He no longer chews up shoes or clothes. He still steals wood scraps from the garage, but stuff in the house has been safe for a while -- unless he was left unattended for very long inside and then he would get into the trash. Things I know and can live with. But today . . .

I just can't believe he did this . . . .

I hurt my hand a few weeks ago and had to have a special brace made to wear at night to help straighten out my finger. The boy ate my brace. Ate it. Gone. Didn't even leave the velcro. I'm going to have to call the physical therapist in the morning and beg her to work me in to make another one. This will cost around $125.

He's such a good boy!!!!

Mine are still little...they don't eat things, just chew on them. Their favorite is my underwear, my socks, my shoes, papertowels, boxes...any sort of paper really.

What my dog wouldn't eat today (or yesterday, or Saturday): Her new bag of dogfood. It's a decent brand and she's always liked it. She's not picky at all. (Same dog who eats non food items all the time). She LOVES dogfood. But...we've thought she was sick b/c she was turning her nose up at her food, even letting the old labrador eat her servings. We were going to take her to the vet today but instead we tried giving her a different brand of food. She inhaled it and is back to normal but will NOT eat her Nutro. She spits it back out if you offer her a piece. Makes us wonder about the contaminated food from a few months back.....
