I'm finally going to have to pony up for a new washer in the near future. Some time earlier this year whatever the thing is that detects the water level started acting up, so now I have it set to "Small Load" and it fills up enough for a regular load (it was overflowing at higher settings). In the last few weeks, it's started not draining all the water out, so I have to restart the spin cycle to take care of that. Still, when you consider I got it for free nearly six years ago, I'd say I did alright.

What kind is it? Have you looked for the service manual or operation manual online? I thought I was going to have to shell out hundreds when ours broke, but I was able to fix it myself and learn how they work. I've been able to do 3 separate repairs on it since, and it's still running well......until something breaks.

That's a good point!

My DH has done that a few times. He's been able to do some googling and look up youtube videos on how to fix certain parts. He knows all about washers and dryers now! laugh out loud

I think it's a Hotpoint, don't recall for sure. I worked on the washer and dryer set we had before this one, not sure I feel like doing that again.

With a 12 months same as cash (or even 6), that might be a good plan, so I wouldn't have to divert holiday funds.
If you can get it, I have one you can have. Could extend the free streak.
