I've thought about using Tor, but I kinda feel like that would automatically subject me to more scrutiny.

I've thought about it too, but it's hard enough getting some pages to load normally with proxy sites, I would have to imagine tor being more difficult. On one of my computers the website is just sitting open as a reminder to try it one day.

Encrypt what stuff? Like your hard drive? If you're logged in and using that computer, encryption won't help if someone hacks your computer.
