When the queen and I started dating she told me flat out that she doesn't cook, and that I had to come to terms with that. She makes some okay stuff now. She has 3 or 4 really good meals, and the rest of them I have to "save" or alter. I can't tell you how many times I get a text on my way home telling me to hurry up so I can save dinner.


VF, do you use recipes or go off of taste, smell, and memory?

I use some recipes, but only as guidelines or starting points. I learned how to season meats as a young teenager, and I learned more about herbs and other seasonings in my 20s and 30s. As Emeril Lagasse has often reminded people, you also have to lightly season the vegetables in your meat dishes, too. Butter, white wine, lemon juice, and herbs go a long way with fresh green vegetables (and fish, too!) I've learned a few things from Ina Garten. Her simple vinaigrette is made from olive oil, lemon juice or white wine vinegar, and a tiny bit of dijon mustard, which can always be enhanced with dried herbs.

I also have several cookbooks, which I enjoy reading for the history and discussion of the dishes.

Oregano oil has the same pain relieving results as morphine. I'm loving me some oregano oil right now. 3 drops under the tongue. Hold until you can't take the pain any more. Wash down with water. Wait 10 minutes. Done. Strong

Watching season 1 of Luther (BBC, 2010). Really really good show. Idra Elbis is on my top 5 list of actors I will watch in anything.
