TAKE THESE FEELS [youtube.com]
(the commercial kind of takes the song out of context but the feels are still there for the taking)

I just got some $4 thermal paste for this old Dell laptop I have that's having heating issues. WIth any luck, I'll be able to install Server 2008 on it and use it as my project server without it getting insanely hot anymore.

I've got hot water heat with baseboard radiators and the pipes burst in one of the upstairs bedrooms. It had gotten down to one above zero in town--probably colder out here--and the power went out. After the power came back in the morning, I was in the basement getting the servers all back to their normal suggested serving state and when I came back up the stairs, the water was pouring through the ceiling, down the walls, and out of the light fixtures and cabinets. This, if I am not mistaken, is generally a bad sign.
Though, so far, *everybody* I've told has responded with, "at least it wasn't blood. That would be worse." Maybe there are disadvantages to working in the entertainment industry.
But I guess they have a point. I only managed to clean up the last bits of the fake blood from Backslash a year or two ago. Having my rangetop filled with blood would probably smell really bad the next time I decide to scramble some eggs.
I have power. That's good. I can just heat the house by myself until the furnace repair people get here. I've got an exercycle and all these heavy things just ready to go, and they're not even all wet. Woo!

Hang in there man. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Where are my more intelligent software guys? I need to patch Xchat, but I don't know how to do it. I have the code (below), but I'm not sure how to go about this properly.
SHIT!

Chewy, that's simply a one-line edit. The "-" line is what's already there and needs to come out. The "+" line is the new code that needs to go in. In short, edit the line to replace the variable hostname with the literal string value "myhost".
