WHY THE FARK would you use 10' or 25' Cat6 cables to patch a switch to a panel? And then zip-tie them up in huge looping bundles to the sides of the rack? Does that make any sense to anyone? There is no way in hell I'm getting these runs traced today. I need to disconnect everything, yank all these absurdly long cables (seriously, there isn't a cable in that room shorter than 7', and the patch panels & switches are in the same freaking rack), probably move the core switch up a bit and away from the secondaries, then re-patch everything properly.
They didn't even use any standard colors for the different connections. Firewall to core switch? Blue. Patch panel to secondary switch? Blue. Some random yellow', green, grey and red cables that look like at some point someone tried to delineate which color cables were being used for what but somebody's obviously just repurposed them for whatever they needed at the moment.
With 50 people in this office I can't have everything offline for the 3-4 hours it would take to untangle this mess. Why on earth would you plug runs from the production floor straight into your core switch when you have tons of empty ports on the secondary switches? Oh, that's right. Because you're lazy and you don't know wtf you're doing.
I'm literally tracing 10' loops of ethernet cable up the sides of the rack, up, down, up, down, up, oh that's where it's plugged in. Hooray.
EDIT: No. It wasn't Benjamin Rush. It was Patrick Henry.
