I bet it's really confusing with their dad living downstairs and all kids hope that their parents will get back together, no matter how unrealistic it is. Have you talked to them a bunch about you dating and the fact that their dad and you aren't getting back together ever?
Our kid has taken very strongly to his mom's bf but that's because he's been in our son's life since before he can remember and his mom has him call the bf "dad" and they refer to Phrozt by his name, so the kiddo's really really confused. But he's very adamant that I'm not his mom if anyone sees us together alone and refers to me that way. We also think they said something to him about me because for a while he completely stopped saying "I love you" to me and would look away ashamed...I've been around since he was 2.5 years old so he knows me well and snuggles me a bunch but there's something in his head that won't let him close all the way.

That way you don't let her control your emotions or interactions, but do take her feelings into account and give her time to adjust. And give her a heads up before that time comes. And you can always do the same with your youngest too.
