Well, this farking Asus RT-N16 router is going back to J&R, from whence it came, only two months ago. I've completely reset and reloaded the firmware on it, and it still refuses to connect to the damned cable modem. The modem is okay, because if I connect my laptop directly to it, I get internet. I pulled the Asus router, and re-installed my backup Netgear router. Damn, but that's TWICE this old horse has saved my ass, in less than six months. WTF is up with Asus quality these days? This was previously the most highly-rated router available. Annoyed

do you have any options on the Asus to force the link speed (instead of letting it auto-negotiate)? I've seen that exact problem with a Cisco router and a Netgear switch @ a client. We had to get pretty fancy w/the Cisco to get it to understand that we wanted to *always* be on gigabit over this particular port.

Also check your MTU size and play around with the settings. If you haven't already I mean. Sometimes having that setting wrong or @ default will horse with the link negotiation. Although where it *should* be set, I've no idea. laugh out loud

No options whatsoever. The stupid Asus uses a "wizard" interface and *ALWAYS* auto-negotiates, which is where it's failing. Pretty damned stupid, eh?

Hey, while we're talking, I found out how to make those habanero pickles from the square-headed Germans even hotter. They don't pierce or slice the habaneros when they place them in the bottle. If you take 'em out and cut 'em in half, then replace them in the brine, the pickles will get LOTS hotter. Licklips

I think Staples spies on my browsing history on their page then emails me suggestions. They are sneaky.

It's cookies they keep on your computer while you're shopping. They read 'em back and compose the e-mail messages using them. Google is wicked sharp about this, too.

Well, this is the second RT-N16 that's flaked out on me. I re-capped the first one after two years because it was out of warranty. It worked for several more months then started being flaky with a completely different cable modem. They've always provided good quality products for me in the past, but I'm really starting to wonder about their routers, now. Mad

That said, I've got an Asus motherboard coming in next week for my wife's new desktop computer build. I sure hope it doesn't have any unexpected issues. The last time I was building three different desktop systems, I used Shuttle motherboards, and they outlasted the higher-priced Intel P4 mobo I used in my personal desktop. That one developed a bunch of bad capacitors in a seriously quick way. I wound up throwing it out and still have the old Shuttle sitting on a shelf.

FYI, I'm grooving to a collection of live Otis Redding right now. Seriously funky and fun stuff.

Good tip about the pickles! Have you tried the Claussens yet? Those things are pretty dang spicy too!

I'm gonna make my own spicy pickles this year. Planting cukes in about three - four weeks. Eat
