Knitters/Crocheters

I know that there are a few of you.
I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm attempting some new things. I'm actually using patterns now, where before I just knitted whatever came about. Big Grin

I'm beginning to realize that I only have small needles and I'm becoming a yarn snob.

I knitted a hat for my nephew, one for myself (no patterns), a baby-carrier (no pattern), and now I'm going to start working on some fingerless gloves.

Anyone else? Any deals on good yarn, needles, etc.?

I just picked up a book from Michael's and learned from that. It was just a plain knitting tutorial book. It's not that hard. You just need to reserve some stitches to be knitted after a couple behind it had been knitted.

Thanks! I'm truly amazed that you attempted cables for your first project! It's great. Maybe I'll try them next time I get out the needles. Whee

Oh wait, I left out a little bit of instruction....

To make the cables pop out from the background, you have to Knit the cables and Purl the background. Does that make sense?

I did a cable knit scarf as my second project ( no pictures, gave it to a friend)

If I recall correctly, it had to be a certain number of stitches ( like 22 i think my scarf was) and all I did was endlessly knit knit purl purl. When you got to the end, that reversed it, so each time, you were putting innie stitches on top of each other, and outie stitches on top of each other.
example
knit knit purl purl
next line would be reversed
purl purl knit knit

which means all the stitches lined up in pretty cables all in a row!

I want a huge blanket for my king sized bed. EEK! I'm thinking of doing a sampler of different crochet stitches and kind of making a patchwork out of it so it would be portable. I crochet everywhere - at my son's speech therapist, swim lessons, before nap and bedtime when I'm waiting for the guys to go to sleep... I try to crochet at least a half hour a day.

I want to knit gloves next!
I have a couple patterns ... somewhere. One's from the '40s, IIRC. At one point, I was considering knitting gloves to finish the Harry Potter costume for my son. Did the V-neck sweater and red-and-gold scarf for him, and he wore my college graduation gown. I decided gloves were too much work, and he'd outgrow them too fast.

Your cables are gorgeous, Jaded_echo. I love cables. They're really not too hard. I really need to photograph some of my projects. Right now, finishing up a shell for myself, done in a hot-pink ribbon yarn, and working on a maroon V-neck cardigan for hubby's birthday gift. The cardigan is worked from the neck down so there will be no seams! Whee

Earlier this year I finished an afghan that will be a gift to my son. Used leftover yarn to make "puff squares" (like grannies). I just kept throwing them in a basket, and finally had 300+ after about 3 years. Took me a couple weeks to assemble them because they're crocheted together, and then there were 4 million ends to work in.... vomit

Someday I'll get back to the double-knitted afghan I started about 5 years ago. It's gorgeous but very slow going. 400 stitches on the needle, and you knit a rather intricate pattern off a chart. (Reindeer and snowflakes.) It's reversible, so you're knitting the front and back at the same time, and yeah, it's just as complicated and confusing as it sounds, which is why it's taking me forever!

I am sooooo excited. I've been looking at all these people's Ravelry pages and I want to do the intricate patterns. I have some pattern books, so I am trying to think up what I should make for my next project with the patterns that I like. I would like to knit a sweater but worry that it will be too hard trying to size everything correctly.

Girls, take pictures of your work and post them up. I want to see your beautiful knittings.

Jaded_Echo wave Saw your I'm tired and hungry bye post last night. I was hungry and tired then too! I don't have many pics of my knitted items, but what I do have are already somewhere in this thread... Just a couple scarves and a backback purse. They are all in the same post. I'm excited that you knit too! Whee I really need to learn more from some of the ladies posting their fabulous pics. Love the market bags aggiesmomx2 is making. nod

laugh out loud You don't want me to knit your hat! It wouldn't be very good. I see you are having trouble getting the others to knit you one. laugh out loud Keep trying! Maybe someday someone will relent.
