Knitters/Crocheters

I know that there are a few of you.
I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm attempting some new things. I'm actually using patterns now, where before I just knitted whatever came about. Big Grin

I'm beginning to realize that I only have small needles and I'm becoming a yarn snob.

I knitted a hat for my nephew, one for myself (no patterns), a baby-carrier (no pattern), and now I'm going to start working on some fingerless gloves.

Anyone else? Any deals on good yarn, needles, etc.?

unfortunately no.Frown the blanket was started by dh's grandmother when she was in the hospital. From what I gather this is what she did before she passed away. Dh's mother said she tried to work on it but couldn't figure it out. She said all she would sit still for as a kid was a plain chain stitch and she said she still can't do it very well. Dh's mom thinks since I am the crafty type I can get it done for him, But I have never crocheted and never knitted til last year. Painting, sewing on a machine, stained glass, mosaics, making hairbows for kids, baking you name it II've done it, but just not this. Embarrassment

Thank youhug I really appreciate it.

if it helps to explain what I see it's like there is a line of chain stitch as the bottom then bars of chain stitch attached to a top chain stitch kindof like a capital I over and over. I know that probably makes no sense but I don't know how else to explain it. shake head

Try this:

chain across
Rows 1 and 2: turn, ch 1, sc across
Row 3: turn. Ch 1, Treble,Double Treble or Triple Treble [about.com] across (depending on the size you need)
Row 4: Turn, Ch 1, Sc across

That looks close to what you've got. Try it with a swatch of 20 stitches across or something and see how it looks. If you need a video, check YouTube for how-to videos on how to make the stitches.

Cheergal, I'm with AggieMom. I think that it looks like a treble crochet. It also appears to be worked in the back loop across. If this is the case it really won't be difficult to finish.

i crochet. ive started my first project and it's a blanket that will cover my full size bed.
ive been working on it for a while now and i'm about 1/10 done Doh
I crochet too. I find it easier to work on my projects while I am watching tv. Seems to go faster.

With crocheting the thinner the yarn the smaller the hook.

I usually make blankets.

I just started a cross-stitch Christmas tablecloth --- now talk about a project !!!!!

Good luck to you all

stay safe,

I just started knitting myself. I knitted a scarf from watching howtos on the internet. Just a basic knit stitch. Now I am trying a stocking stitch (I think that is what it is called) The edges curl in and i just found out you are supposed to use a different stitch to make it not curl.

But I don't know much about knitting. I want to make a beanie, or now a head band since I saw jade echo Smilie but I don't really understand the knitting lingo Frown

This [knittinghelp.com] is the site that helped me tremendously. Not like the youtube skittsh videos most are really clean and clear with good instructions. The home page has a video of casting on in one method .Ther is another page with several other methods. I use a slip knot to begin my knitting then a similar cast on. If you go to the view videos tab you can find a link for most all of the basic knitting stuff. There are a few links for advanced but I can't tell you anything about them because I am not there yet.
