I know that there are a few of you.
I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm attempting some new things. I'm actually using patterns now, where before I just knitted whatever came about. Big Grin

I'm beginning to realize that I only have small needles and I'm becoming a yarn snob.

I knitted a hat for my nephew, one for myself (no patterns), a baby-carrier (no pattern), and now I'm going to start working on some fingerless gloves.

Anyone else? Any deals on good yarn, needles, etc.?

ETA: I also found out that Nana's blanket is crocheting... I am gonna hold out a couple of weeks til I get the knitting down before I take a stab at the crocheting.
Well the loose ends are probably just a result of losing tension on the ends. I don't know it's hard to tell without being there! But I know that every now and then I will get a loose end on a row of stitches. My problem is usually that I knit WAY too tightly.

I can't believe that you're already trying to cable... I haven't even tried that yet. Big Grin Let me know how it goes!

The first thing that I ever knitted was a hat and it was just regular stockinette knitting in the round (on a circular needle). It was easy to do, I didn't have to worry about binding off yet, and I learned how to decrease. Plus a hat is much quicker to knit than a scarf. I've heard of lots of people getting tired of knitting straight in a row on a scarf...

This is my first project I ever knitted. Smilie It's really big because it was supposed to be for my husband. laugh out loud

BJean, No I haven't joined yet as I am still a bit intimidated. But thank you for mentioning youtube, there are quite a few how-to's on there. One I found interesting was this [youtube.com] one about how to knit using the "continental" stitch. It looks pretty neat-o! I think I am fixing to rip out all of what I did last night and this afternoon as I am still getting those terrible loose ends and have noticed that there are three dropped stitches....ugggg....

I need a good video of someone soing the stockinette(?) stitch that shows how they turn thier yarn over etc to see if I am doing something wrong.

PG, the hat looks great(even with no makeup onWink) Do you have a pattern for it and do you have to use the circular needles? I only have three sets of straight. 10, 8 and 6. (Also I guess what I am doing is the stockinette as it looks like what you have on your hat.)

I think I have the casting on pretty much down as the third attempt set pretty well. But casting of I haven't attempted...lol, so we'll see.

Applause Yay! You are doing great! Some of the knitting sites have how to videos as well. I learned that way too. It's great to be able to stop and start the clips to see exactly what they are doing and sometimes one will explain something in a different way that finally makes sense. This thread is getting me in the mood to get those needles out again! Smilie That santa hat pattern is really cute!

Aw, thanks! hug I actually made it without a pattern. My friend told me what to do... Let me see if I can find one for you...

It has the ribbing around the edge and it will help you with knitting and purling. Then it's just stockinette throughout the rest. stockinette is when you just knit over and over and it creates a smooth V pattern through the whole thing, and then on the other side it's bumpy.

I would also bookmark knittinghelp.com. She has video tutorials and the forums are also very quick to respond to any questions you might have that aren't covered under the video tutorials.

Ok. I am seriously about to throw this stuff in the garbage. Frown

I am still getting the loose loops at the ends. I don't know if it is the way I am winding the first stitch around or what. Can anyone maybe explain what I need to do for the end right hand begin lefthand stitch. When I am making the garter stitch (I think, the one with the needle on the bottom) and the thread is on back and I have two/kindof a v with my ball string coming off the back where/what/ how do I place my ball string to make the begining/first loop.

Also how do I do the same for the begining on the purl (the one with the needle on top)? I am sorry if I am making no sense. I am just getting really frustrated and discouraged. I have the middle stitches down pretty well once I start going now, it's just giving me fits on the ends. My book doesn't have a thing to say about what I need to do and I can't find a vid of the actual process. (none of yall wouldn't be willing to make me a 30 second demo would you?) lol

I am a see and try visual hands on type not a read and try and figure it out. I am sorry for being an idiot. Frown Thanks:hugs:

ETA: I saw a lady at my sons football game last night crocheting a beautiful ivory blanket that was huge. I wanted so bad to go and sit behind her so I could study. But I thought I would look like an idiot sitting behind her over her shoulder watching her crochet and not watching the ballgame.
