I've been trying to find a good deal on some tires for the old Man Van, my Excursion with a 1/4 million miles. Of course didn't want to spend too much money since the old girl is nearing the end of her life. After tons of price matching, shopping, research, and negotiation my overall cheapness prevailed. $640 for a set Cooper Discovery ATP Load Range E tires is an awesome deal out the door.
I was just shopping for tires at
Discount Tire Direct's eBay store [ebay.com] and went to price compare from the local
Discount Tire [discounttire.com] store. The local discount tire said the price match so I called the nearest store and he said they would price match the online Discount Tire Direct eBay stores price. When I tried to find a cheaper price online I found
Discount Tire Direct [discounttiredirect.com] website which Discount Tire will also price match.
Discount Tire Local Out the Door Price: $839.67
Price Matched to Discount Tire Direct Out the Door Price: $640
Both prices include mounting, balance, tire disposal fees, taxes, valve stems, and tires. The online price for tires from Discount Tire Direct was $571 and the local shop charged an additional $69 to mount, balance, disposal, stems, etc.
Hope this helps out some other people. I attached my shopping carts to show the price difference. I'm sure you can get deals on lots of other tires. This also saves everyone from ordering tires online, having them shipped to your house, and having to load them in your car to get them mounted at the local tire shop.
Discount Tire Direct charges sales tax for items shipped to: AZ*(9.3%), OH*(7.0%), TX*(8.25%)
Sorry if this is sloppy, it's one of my first posts. I tried so take it easy on me.

The best deal from DT or DTD is to wait until around a holiday when they have their stackable rebates, you can use their CarCareOne card to get an extra $100 off too.

He has noticed however, they spun the Discount Tire Direct division into a separate company to possibly avoid paying taxes in states other than those that have their distribution warehouses in like TX, OH and AZ
Friend recently purchased 4 Michelin Defenders for 2010 Toyota Prius (a small, common, relatively inexpensive tire size) at Costco ($70 off for buying four tires).
Michelin Defender was top-rated by Consumer Reports for all-season, btw.
The price here: $129/tire w/$25 off if you buy four tires.
Costco price per tire: $117.99
And Costco gives $70 off if you buy 4 tires.
So, at least for that brand/model, there is certainly no Slick Deal here.
