Update post #91 - Cupcake needs help for her little muffin. **Thank you everyone for your help**

My son is a big time gamer and his computer is very old and slow. He has saved $1,000 for a new one. I'm so proud of him for saving his money for it.

It needs to be a gaming worthy Desktop computer.

Any suggestions for him?

He just needs a tower. Has a good monitor already.

Yes I know that we have a forum for this kinda thing, but I heart my lounge friends and trust you to do me right. Blowkiss

not going to have much luck building a gaming system for a grand. a decent video card will take away half of the budget. I was able to make suggestions in the tech thread to someone. based on some decent sales and rebates at the time, I was able to build it out for around $800, IIRC. what types of games does he play? World of Warcraft. Call of Duty? can try and come up with some kind of rig for him.

Does he want to build it himself or configure one from a MFG like dell, sony, acer?

Does the price include new monitor(s)? Or what does he have for current ones?

Yeah, need moar infos to some of the questions asked. I think he should be able to build a decent one for that much... It may take a while but It could be a learning experience and introduction SD's as he hunts for various components and builds it himself!

If he buys one from a company he probably won't be able to get as good of specs.

He plays all kinds of games. It has to be already put to together. I am useless at building a computer myself. It needs to have video card that can be upgraded later as he needs to.

if it has to be pre-built, your best option will be a Dell Outlet machine.

Does he need to play games on it or is this just for looking up recipes? What kind of condiments does he like?

My son has a cyberpower PC. $1k isn't going to cut it cuppycake. If he is a serious gamer, good graphics card, ram, etc.etc. I think my munchkin paid $2500 for his. This thing is actually pretty at night, lights up.
Dell also has an Alienware PC for gaming. He was going to buy that but did research for days, which is good. Hasn't had any problems.

I'd recommend an Alienware desktop from the Dell Outlet.

Would a real big time gamer need his mom to buy this computer for him/her?

How old is he?

I bought a Dell refurb a few years ago that had (at the time) pretty average everything. i7 processor, decent amount of RAM, decent video card. It was probably around $500. It can play every game I want just fine. I cant turn the graphics up to max on anything, but it suits my needs. For me I dont worry about the top of the line graphics and comparing my epeen to others with my computers "scores" though.
