What is the quality like on this thing compared to the popular harbor freight 40+inch ones?

The Harbor Freight has a thicker gauge steel. I've seen this Costco unit. It's made by Torin. Torin does not list the steel gauge specs. But it's thinner than HF or Menards. Forgot the drawer bearing weight limit. Costco has a lifetime return policy on things like this. It has a textured smoothish powder coat finish which I actually liked. Every drawer has a lock latch on the far right side, hidden under the chrome lip handles. keeps it closed while moving around or prevents kids from messing with your stuff. I was almost going to buy this early this summer at Costco, but started to research better units at Harbor Freight and Menards. Because of Costco's lifetime return policy, this is a good deal. Shipping is normally free (included in price). So I can see why they are now charging for shipping while also knocking off a hundred. Don't get me wrong, it's a great tool box and worth the price. Very sporty looking. Side push pull handles are cool looking. Always go see tool boxes in person before you buy. You may find a box will not work right for your needs.

The best tool cabinets/chests are made by Extreme Tools. Costco use to carry the blue units for $2000, but they all sold out across the US. Costco had to drop the listing. Now I see they are carrying the black color, only color currently available, for $1,800. That is an outstanding deal. I just don't care for black, otherwise I'd buy it!

Could OP or someone that has seen that toolbox at $499.99 post the location of their Costco? My store has it without mfr rebate, at regular price. They can possibly match it, but have to know the store.

BTW, it looks like it sold out online, so no way to give store the link.

Thanks!

My store also has it at regular price (I called) Does anyone have a clearer picture of the $100 off? it looks like the expiration is 12/1/14 on butcher boys picture. Its weird i kind of want it more now that it might be gone at 499. harbor freight box is probably better anyway

Looks like rebates were pulled off US-wide sometimes between it was posted by OP and yesterday, because $$$ amount of rebate has been exceeded - that was an explanation of manager in my Costco. Not sure how it works, since Kirkland is a Costco own brand. Obviously not made by Costco, but either Torin or same place that makes Homak Pro and US General. So might be contractual with actual mfr.

After some nice conversation she agreed to honor the $499.99 price, if the tool chest will be picked up before rebate expires (tomorrow, 12/1). Since it's football night, my better half will pick it up for me today Big Grin
