Weird. I called an auto repair place near the jam venue that I had read worked on Miatas, and was informed that they're not accepting any new Mazda customers. Until he found out I wasn't an existing customer, they were all set to do it on Thursday.

Especially with something as finicky as a starter. I dunno how a Mazda is, but small-block Chevys and other GM vehicles often required shims to align the damned starters correctly.

I've read something about someone talking about shimming their starter, but that appears to be a one-off as none of the walkthroughs I've read mention it at all. But they do mention using about 24" of ratchet extensions... and a breaker bar Sadwalk
If it takes other folks 2-3 hours, it'll take me longer.
