So What Does Everyone Think About Deflate-Gate?

25,141 707 January 22, 2015 at 12:50 PM in Sporting Goods
The title says it. What does everyone think about this bizarre "Deflate-Gate" deal that is far more interesting that this year's Super Bowl? Belichick reaffirmed that he knew nothing at all about the football preparation and denied having anything to do with it.

Tom Brady is supposed to be talking publicly very soon and may be admitting to arranging to have the footballs prepped to the way he likes them.

So, is this a big deal? Is this something that happens with pretty much every team and it has just become public?

11 of the 12 balls were under inflated, what happened to the 12th ball? You would think they would all be similar.
Who the hell knows? Maybe someone wasn't paying attention. There are a million reasons why the 12th ball might be different than the other 11.

The Colts said they were suspicious of the balls last game and then confirmed it this game. Last game was in a heated dome, is it just coincidence that the Colts suspicions were correct or did they just get lucky?

By not paying attention you mean forgot to deflate number 12?

Cause at that presser on Thursday #12 seemed pretty deflated

they weren't all deflated to the same number. 11 of the 12 were below the 12.5psi. I have not seen an article that states what footballs were at what numbers. but perhaps the 12th was at 12.6, one of the others was 11.7, another 11.1, another at 10.5, and so on. only thing I have seen is 11 of 12 were below the number as low as 2psi under. so that range for 11 of 12 was somewhere between 10.5 and 12.4 with a 12th being 12.5-13.5 range.

Well, the NFL certainly has given everyone something to talk about during the two weeks when nobody is playing football, haven't they? I personally don't see where very slightly under-pressure footballs add up to or in any way equal a 35-point / five touchdown game difference. Seems more like a lack of effective defense, to me.
Has anybody even suggested that the deflated balls had any impact on the outcome of the game? Facepalm

If you drive home drunk from the bar and don't get in an accident and kill somebody does that mean drinking and driving is okay?

At one point I heard that ball #12 was the kicking ball which would have been prepared differently than the rest. But then I also heard that the NFL supplies the kicking ball so that makes it sound like it wouldn't be included in the 12 footballs for each team.

Mystery not solved.

I bet whoever deflated those footballs and didn't get away with it is pretty scared of Belichick about now.

On Thursday Brady said he couldn't notice a difference in the deflated balls during the game and he likes the balls at 12.5. In 2011 he said he like deflated balls. How would he know he likes under inflated balls if he cant tell the difference? If 12.5 is within regulation and it's only a difference of 1 psi from lowest psi allowed to highest why would he say he likes deflated balls? 12.5 is regulation not deflated.

The Colts got suspicious the last time they played in a dome that would eliminate the temperature excuse and were found correct during the last game. To me that points to a long term scheme.

The Patriots have ripped Indy in recent years. Even if it was the ball boy on his own will, can you tell me they felt the need to do this only with Indy? They have been owned by the Ravens in the playoffs recently, wouldn't the same person feel the need to help just as much if not more against the Ravens? Patriots won a close game against the Ravens scoring 21 2nd half points.

To me the Patriots don't even get past the Ravens without cheating.

Patriots never win a Super Bowl without spying.

A legacy built on cheating. The Lance Armstrong of the NFL

what if I told you the Colts were the ones that actually possibly cheated. Popcorn

"Oh, but if this whole science thing is true, then why weren't the Colts' balls under-inflated? They played in the same weather, right? EXPLAIN THAT," the haters shouted as a final resort.

This is actually the easiest part to understand; the Colts pumped up their balls more than the Patriots did. Naughton even argued that the pigskins Indianapolis supplied might have been inflated past the NFL's maximum PSI limit, but you won't see the NFL launching an investigation into that.

May have been 13.5 PSI as the kicker's ball.

Were the Colt's suspicions correct in the first game? Or did they merely wait until they're outside in a cold arena with thermodynamics at play to start whining, hedging their bets on underinflated balls since I'm sure they know Brady likes them at the edge of the legal limit?

Your false dichotomy doesn't impress me.
