Natural selection at it's finest...yes, it's sad, but I can't stop laughing...

A 10-year-old Washington state boy died Monday of injuries he suffered Saturday when he buried his head in a sandbox during a play date while mimicking a favorite cartoon character.

EEK!

Quote from Article :
The mimicry involved Codey's playmates burying him head-first in a one-foot-deep sandbox, Joshua Quantrille told ABC News' Seattle affiliate KOMO-TV. Quantrille, 30, is Codey Porter's half-brother and his three sons were among the boys playing in the sand box Saturday with Codey.

Quantrille said the other children initially thought Codey, buried from his head to the top of his chest, was joking when he started to thrash around. By the time they got help, the boy had already stopped breathing. Adults at the house tried unsuccessfully to administer CPR before emergency medical personnel arrived.
Come on...30 years old....LMAO LMAO LMAO

I agree with your statement. How anyone could find humor in this is beyond me. Would those that think this is funny feel the same way about a child who did something dumb like get in a car with a stranger after being told not to a million times and ended up murdered think that situation was funny? I pray that nothing ever happens to any of your children.
I don't think any of the people that think this is funny have children of their own. I think that's the difference.

Several points.
1) This will not make the darwin awards. The kid is not eligible as he WAS only a kid. They have an age limit.
2) Have any of you actually seen the naruto cartoons? What the kid did was not "stupid" or "dumb" for a 10 year old. He sees a cartoon character pull his head right out of the sand without any effort. What experience do you assume he has that would make him aware that it is much harder to pull your head out then it appears? There are lots of things that appear much easier then they really are, a 10 year old does not have the experience to know the difference.
3) Anyone who thinks this is funny is one sick person and should not be allowed to mingle with the general population. What else would they think is funny? killing puppies? strangling old ladies? just completely repulsive in every sense of the word and worthy of being permanently added to my ignore list.

Dontknow

i'm sure every kid knows of ostriches hiding their head in sand to hide from enemies. doesn't make them run out and try it.

btw.. speaking of ostriches don't you think its pretty bad a bird with a brain the size of a peanut knows enough not to kill itself burying its head v the kid?

you dont have to experience things to know they are bad for you...

my mother used this example when i wanted something badly: if you see kids jump from the room of the building, are you going to doit? (well there are dumbasses who do follow others, ya when they doit i'll laugh my ass off as well), obviously my answer is no...

same as those idiots who are in a cult. remmber that cult in the 90's who drank cyanide casue some comet was coming to earth. do you really want those wackjobs procreating?

killing puppies? if nessesary yes, there are times when it's nessesary to kill them. sad, sure, but if its needed i dont see a problem. why would you murder old ladies?

i never said that sick people should be killed or removed from general population. you will find that most sick people are pretty decently behaved human beings.

Death is never funny to me ever.

However:

By 10 years old the need to breathe is common sense. Any kid who has ever swam or even dunked their head in the bathtub knows that no air is a bad thing.

I agree with the point being made here that what the kid did was stupid. If by 10 years old your child doesn't know better than to bury his head in the sand, how do you even protect a kid like that from themself? The kid was definitely old enough to know better. BUT I also agree that it wasn't funny in the least.

Stupid yes, funny no. I think somewhere in this thread stupid came to mean funny and that's not the case.

Not the point of this thread at all....but ostriches don't really do that. Only in cartoons.

I don't think it's funny...but I'm just kind of floored that a ten year old would do that. Sure kids do dumb things, but that doesn't even sound fun...just strange. Feel bad for his family, how do you deal with the loss of a child + family being involved in the death + all the questions one would inevitably ask themself about how could I have stopped it, why didn't he know better, etc, etc. Those half-nephews (would that be their relation?) are going to be dealing with this trauma for years (maybe their whole lives).

Has anyone thought of the fact that parents should be teaching their kids the difference between cartoons/tv/movies/books/games and real life? This kind of stuff happens often, where kids try to imitate a fictional character. It is sad that so many kids are under the impression that they can do whatever something that is not real can. I understand how the kid did this... he was stuck essentially and was thrashing but his friends thought it was a joke. It is all pretty easy to see actually. Very sad.
