It looks like a tornado hit my apartment complex last night. Many trees down, lots of covered parking spots are destroyed. I saw at least 3 cars with broken windows. It's surreal.

I had to step over a tree when I got home this morning.

I would take pictures, but I'm too lazy.

laugh out loud For some reason I find the pool picture funny.

Bummer about the rest of the damage though. Don't they make stuff... I dunno... tornado proof down there? (in regards to the car port)

I heard a helicopter when I was taking pictures.
No, Maybe I can rewind. Did you see the guy, I think he said his name was Dan Godwin...??? He showed the same silver car and twisted metal, also a tree down right against the building. He was there in the lot not in the heli.

They are giving the damage run down again with the remote reporters lemme see if he shows up again.

I still can't figure out why noone has basements. It freaks me out every time I hear thunder. There's nowhere to go. Confused

A few ppl have storm shelter things out behind thier houses but not so many. I only know of two in about a 10 mile radius of my house.

Me too...I live in the south Dallas area...and apparently a tornado hit really close to my mom in Desoto...TOO scary for me...

But everyone is ok in my family/friends...but it's just the WORST when it happens in the middle of the night...

Well that sheet metal crap is just dangerous. It obviously wasn't built to withstand the wind. In our neck of the woods... you can't build something if it's not going to withstand the snow we get here. I'd think they'd do something similar down there for wind. Maybe a carport isn't held to the same standard since it isn't inhabited.... but the flying sheets of metal probably did more damage than if the cars were just out in the open.

EEK! I wonder if those that parked under covered parking will reconsider that choice in the future. Scratchchin

I think they just had it up for hail protection. Confused I honestly don't know what they could make the shelters from that could withstand the winds when they are between 70 and 90mph with gusts upwards of 100 and tornadoes touching down here and there.

I agree. The two cars not covered each had a broken window. I think I'd take that over the damage caused to the paint/body by the carport.

Sorry.. didn't mean to derail your thread DNC.

I'd say that carport really could have been constructed to withstand the wind a little better than it did. Judging from the pics it failed miserably. Sure, I would expect to see some damage... but that thing got ripped to shreds.

I bet DNC is pretty happy his car wasn't in that parking lot at the time!
