Hi all
I'm headed to Vegas and was wondering if anyone there could tell me if it is a coupon friendly store. Also, if anyone is in St George Utah, I will be driving through there and would love some input. Please PM me...reps are waiting!
Thanks!

Oh no, trust me, I've been there! You just can't know what to expect, and no matter what everyone tells you, you won't REALLY know till you experience it for yourself. Smilie

Just make sure you stock up on all that stuff, like plates and cups - you'll be healing, and spending time getting to know your baby, so you don't need to spend any extra time in the kitchen than you have to! And stock up on foods you can make real simple meals out of! (And have your hubby collect local takeout menus for you - takeout was our best friend for a few weeks, and the menus my hubby had collected really came in handy!)

And if you're feeling up to it now, it's always a good idea to make a few dinners/casseroles to freeze so you can just pop them in the oven (you'll be too tired to cook!)

Just plan everything to make it as easy on yourself as possible. And with the relatives, don't be afraid to ask them for help! That's what they're there for! If they want to help you and the baby, they won't have a problem washing some dishes or folding some laundry. It's all about you and the baby. Wink Just something simple like: "Could you do [insert chore here] while I go change/feed/rock the baby?" Something like that. What do all the fellow mamas out there think? Any good tips? Big Grin

Oh, and the one thing I always tell my fellow new mommies: (because no one told me and I wish they had!) You will still look very pregnant for several weeks after the baby comes. I was not prepared for that, and it freaked me out! EEK! LMAO No one ever tells you that, and in the movies, all the women look just like they did before supposedly hours after they have the baby. (We wish, right?!) That's my "one thing I always must tell new mommies-to-be." Smilie (All you current moms, what's the one bit of advice you always have to give new moms? I'm always curious about that. Smilie)

But just relax and take it easy on yourself. The calmer you feel, the calmer everyone else will be, too.

You'll be fine - it's SO exciting! Big Grin Having a baby in the house, especially your first, is a wonderful time in your life!

Congratulations, and if you need anything, we'll always be here! Wink
Lol oddly enough I looked very preg after having the first 2 for a few weeks but with the 3rd one I walked out of the hospital with my stomach flat as a board. I stood looking in the mirror in shock over that one LMAO I agree with all the advice here. Giving birth is something you can read about and have people tell you about but till you do it you have no clue. My biggest advice is try to sleep when the baby does the first week or two at least. You will need your rest. My other advice is if you want to breastfeed talk to the lactation consultant and get help its not as easy as it sounds till you get the hang of it. I also HIGLY recommend baby slings like the maya wrap. craddled the baby right up against me freeing my hands. I used it to clean up around the house and to go shopping. Baby always slept sooooo well in that thing snuggles up against me. Plus I could nurse with it even in public and no one could tell a thing. Made life much easier. I didn't get one till number 3 and now wish I had one all along. Don't let family push you around this is your time lock yourself in your room with the baby and rest if you need to DO NOT play hostess you will get tired cranky and resent them. Also post partum depression is VERY real. It is not your fault IF this happens to you your hormones are outta wack. Talk to your Dr right away if you get weepy or feel depressed

Here's my .02. If relatives are coming to visit, make sure they know you will not wait on them. This is a special time for you, and you do not need to be running around playing hostess. I would inform them that you have stocked the kitchen and would appreciate if they help themselves to what ever it is they need. If you don't have it stocked, you can give directions to the nearest store for them. This is the one time in your life where it really is all about you and the baby. Good Luck!hug
Thanks for the advice...I'll try to do as much as I can before the baby comes so they can be comfortable and the hubby is taking off work for a couple of weeks to spend time with the baby so we'll work it out. I wish I can just give them directions and be done with it, but when they come to visit they don't drive cause they dont have U.S. licenses and they dont know their way around. But I definitely decided that this time me and my baby come first, second, and last. Hopefully, I wont feel guilty when I tell them no I can't take you shopping. Usually when they come to visit we go shopping non-stop for 2 weeks.

I am already cranky ... I have been stuck at the house for most of the pregnancy so I get very cranky very easily. I can't pass a mirror and not have watery eyes cause I can't recognize myself. I hope once the baby comes I won't be so deformed =(

Man, I must have had easy births or great babies. IDK.

My advise - keep the visitors, whether related or not, at bay.

We are having a tough time getting out of the house today. Just don't feel like it, but we need to run to UPS for a few things. I need to get back here though and spend the afternoon buried in cpns.

Okay...I'm tempted but very leary of the Target check card.

For those of you who may not know what I'm referring to: The REDcard that's a PIN-secure debit card at Target. The Target Check Card is great news for people who love shopping (and saving) at Target. It draws right from your existing bank account like a check, and it earns Target Rewards. You can use it to get up to $40 cash back from your bank account when you check out, too.

A cashier was telling me about this. After you spend $1000, you receive a 10% off pass good for anything in the store.

Does anyone use this? If so, do you like it? Have you hand any issues with it?

It sounds like it could be a slickdeal... I spend $1000 + easily every couple of months there. Or, at least I did before I began being stalked by security because *gasp* I use legit coupons. EEK!
It would take me 10 years to spend $1000 oop at Target! Besides, they knew entirely way too much about my spending habits when I used to use my debit card there. I haven't used it in over 6 mos and had to pick up something for the office (that I was getting reimbursed for so no need to plot out a huge shopping run to get it cheap!! LMAO ) and I received several CRT's for products that I bought a year ago. Hmmmmmmm, I'd rather they didn't know quite so much about what I buy and how I pay for it KWIM.

Quote from sillygeese :
Exactly, and paper plates biodegrade so I don't worry about them filling my landfill. I even used cloth diapers most of the time, used them for at least a year with both kids, the first I started using cloth late, the second had a rash that only went away with disposibles, I gave up on the rash at the year mark and changed to disposibles. So six months of paper plates are not worry for the enviroment. I don't buy plastic bags for my bathroom garbage, or for cleaning my cats litter box. I recycle(target bags are so much better than the one's you can buy for these thingslaugh out loud )

They do make corn based biodegradable garbage bags, has anyone seen these at target yet? Also is the method (these are target brand aren't they) soaps better for the enviroment? I thought that was one of there selling points?
I am not bashing anyone that uses paper or plastic products as these products have been manufactured for convenience.

Just don't fool yourself by thinking that paper products are more enironmentally friendly.

Here is an interesting article.

Loyola University study "Paper or Plastic: What's the Best Choice?" [loyno.edu]

I particularily like this excerpt:

We used to praise paper because it biodegrades and polystyrene does not. Now we have found that paper does not always biodegrade in landfills, and, when it does, it produces methane, carbon dioxide, and many water soluble products (such as cellulose) that create oxygen demand when decomposing. We now see that paper products are not as environmentally friendly as we once thought.

Waste from disposable products is not the only environmental impact...consider these factors:

When evaluating the environmental life-history of paper, Franklin Associates considered land use needs, impacts on watershed, impact of planting and nurturing the trees, harvest, transporting, milling, processing into paper (ever been around a paper mill?), and then turning the paper into a cup, plate, etc., plus its final destination (landfilling or recycling).

We are certainly a "throw away" society and live by the philosophy "if it is easy and less time consuming" then it is for me!

Off my Soap Box now, but it is very important to Reduce, Reuse & Recycle in every way shape or form that we can! I don't know about you (not you sillygeese-speaking in general terms here), but I want a better world not only for myself, but for my kid, grandkids, great grandkids, and on and on!

They both gave you great advice, also!

And don't feel guilty if you can't take them shopping. They've come to see you and the baby, and to help out! That's what families are for. Smilie If they don't understand at first, they'll understand. Even if they are from abroad and are used to a more posh lifestyle than you and your husband. Wink

And I know that cranky feeling - those last few weeks, all you can think is "get this baby outta me! My body is mine, and I want it back!" Just remember you may feel that way about how you look, but everyone else thinks you're just beautiful! Pregnant women are adorable! There's nothing more beautiful than a mother with her baby. (Before and after the baby's born!) So just keep that in mind next time you happen to pass a mirror. Smilie What you see is opposite of what everyone else sees! Or if it's easier, try not to look directly in the mirror. I had to do that my last couple months of pregnancy, and the first year or so after baby was born. laugh out loud

And no, you won't be deformed! You'll still be just as lovely as ever. Even lovlier, because you had a baby! Big Grin A couple of things my mother told me when I was little (she passed away when I was in my teens, so could never tell me when it came time for me to have a baby) that later helped me when I had a baby: Your stretch marks are your badges of courage. hug And after a baby, wonderbras really are wonderful. laugh out loud

No I agree I'm trying hard to do more recycling and stuff. This is also the reason I LOVE my steam cleaner. Not only do I think it works bettwe on chemicals on my floor and in the bathroom it also just uses steam to clean and a washable towel on it with the steam for the floor. No chemicals into the environment no empty chemical bottles into the landfills and I save money how can it get any cooler. Oh hot steam removes kid sticky mess sooo well to disolves stuff like jelly off the floor lol. I highly recommend them I got it when my baby was in the crawling stage because I didn't want to use harmful chemicals on my tile floors and have him crawl on it. So glad I made the switch. That said I'm not sure if Target sells them or not lol

That's why I just bought a bunch of those red reusable target grocery sacks near the dollar spot. My cupboard was starting to explode with plastic target sacks that I didn't know what to do with, so now I'm going to start using the reusable ones to help save the environment.

We send them into DD's school where they recycle them with the WalMart Kids Recycling Challenge. http://www.kidsrecyclingchallenge.com/

I have a few reusable grocery bags. Looks like I need to add the pretty red ones with the bullseye to my collection!

Ok seriously, WTH is the deal with people saying "I get $xx a week for food, or I hubby gives me $xx a week." Are we living in the fricken 1960's? Are both names not on the checking acct?

Sorry, I just don't understand that at all. Maybe it was the way it was worded.

You don't have to use the Target check card just at Target to receive the 10% cert. You can use it at other places, you just have to spend more to get the cert. I use my Target Visa everywhere and have gotten several 10% off cards.

Every dollar you spend on your REDcard at Target (and every two dollars you spend everywhere else Visa credit cards are accepted) equals one point. Every time you hit 1,000 points, youll earn 10% off an entire day of shopping at Target.

My mother in law visited after both babies (thankfully, not until they were at least a month old), and she was coming from Alaska. Let me tell you, she was shopping STARVED! laugh out loud I remember with my son, she was here for 2 weeks, and we went shopping every single day of those two weeks. Mind you, my husband had just started radiation and I wanted to be there for every appointment - his mother apparently did not feel that same need. shake head That would have interrupted her shopping.

When my daughter was born, she HATED her carseat, and screamed the entire time she was in it. That curtailed pretty much all excursions. Big Grin If I needed to go somewhere, my MIL would offer to stay home with the kids so I could do my thing without getting a headache. That was SO appreciated, believe me. Once you have a baby, you realize how much you enjoy your "me" time, because it gets very scarce.

And be prepared for your hormones to go crazy. I truly believe I had full-blown post-partum depression after both births. I was very touchy, got into arguments all the time, absolutely could NOT tolerate ANY crying from the baby, would get so frustrated with the littlest things. I just came to this realization when my mil visited again recently, without a newborn in the house, and most of the tension I had felt on her previous visits was gone. Its because my hormones weren't all haywire!

Definitely something to make your husband aware of ahead of time - you know how they want to make it better, but that just doesn't work real well in this situation. Smilie

Last thing - no one ever prepared me for how hard the first month would be. Once you bring that baby home from the hospital, and you are solely responsible for it, it's a little scary. And when they keep waking up at night and nothing seems to pacify them, it can be hugely overwhelming. But just determine in your head that "this too shall pass", and it'll be fine. Once you get to the point where they start cooing and smiling, it's all worth it.

And that's the bottom line - children are such joys and gifts, its hard now to imagine life without them. They are a ton of work, but they pay it back in so many different ways, you almost forget everything you went through. Smilie Almost. Smilie

Your points just keep adding up. I have 5000 points on my card, so I have 5 more 10% off cpns coming, even if I don't use my card. The trick is, you have to put your purchase on your red card when you use the 10% off card.

Is it 1 point per dollar?

I think those are people that stick to a tight budget. I would assume the amount was agreed on not that they were told you can only spend this much and I would assume there is wiggle room. That said back when we were broke our food budget was tight and set in stone. I now handle all the bills and everything is peachy. Is it bad I tell hubby how much he can have for entertainment lol
