A couple of my tracking numbers recently have been listed as Carrier: AMZL_US. They have been delivering in white vans and have green vests on. They must be starting to use their own delivery service. Seems similar to Lasership.

Whenever Amazon sends me anything through USPS it never arrives on time. I hope they do not stop using UPS. That would be terrible.

Your numbers make no sense. If the average cost to UPS is $1.14, then that should be factoring in salary, gas, vehicle, etc. That's generally how you arrive at an average. Unless that was one sentence - it's hard to tell with the lack of period, the line break, and then the capitalized W.
Also, how on earth did you arrive at $1 per package that Amazon pays? Is that an average as well, or are you actually claiming that they have a flat rate fee of $1 no matter if it's tires or a paperclip?
And finally, even if your magical pulled out of nowhere numbers were true, with a gap of 14 cents per box, wouldn't UPS just raise the rates a teensy bit to start making money instead of cancelling their contract with one of the largest volume shippers in the world?

Well UPS/FedEx/USPS have had dimensional pricing at a higher rate for oversize packages for a while now. The difference is that now, UPS/FedEx are applying the higher rates to all packages regardless of size. Maybe large shippers like Amazon have negotiated lower rates, or they can work with their suppliers to shrink the size of packaging, but for a small volume weekend eBayer like me, UPS/FedEx are simply not options anymore. You can't sell a $20 video card if shipping is $30. Luckily USPS can ship it (profitably...they lose money on subsidized services like First Class mail, but they make money on packages) for $10, but if USPS changes to dimensional pricing...
