Thought I found a great deal on a Samsung 840 Pro SSD at Microcenter...

So I was looking through Microcenter.com yesterday and saw that they had 1 Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD remaining for $57. That is a pretty good price for a high end SSD so I quickly ordered it for store pickup (it was only available in store).

The next day I get a confirmation that it's ready to pick up. After work I drive over to the store and go to the counter. Right away I see they are bringing out a Sandisk SSD and not the Samsung I ordered. Not only that, it's the low end Plus series. They tell me they couldn't find it and they found this replacement. They can't offer me the 850 Pro which would be the logical exchange.

It's kind of lame they didn't just tell me in the e-mail or cancel my order so I didn't have to waste my time going there.

And I checked every store and mine was the only one that had 1 in stock so I didn't bother posting on SD. I thought that people might have some luck price matching, but it's so super YMMV that it's probably not even worth it.

Sorry to hear of your mishap there.

So a totally different brand-name item with worse specifications/performance is a more comparable match to your original order than a same-brand product with similar specifications/performance?

Wow, what complete and utter morons (and cheap asses). That sort of illogical and irrational decision is something that I would expect at Fry's, but I guess Microcenter is just as bad. If they did that to me, I probably couldn't have left without imparting some condescending words on my way out.

It's curious that employees make trite and ill-considered decisions like this. I mean, Fry's (and presumably Microcenter) are probably not in great financial health due to heavy online competition. Pissing off customers over trivial stuff like this, and their general F-the-customer-attitude is not something that is in their best interest, and will only serve to hasten the demise of these retailers (and thus the jobs of those who are employed there).

Oh man. I wonder if that means you can return a used one and get your money back.
