I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

Anybody knwo what happens with your AMEX? Will amex also convert you to another product, or do you need to apply for ANOTHER amex; hard pull and all?
AMEX is not going to send you a replacement card for your existing costco card. However, they send you a mailer to apply for a replacement card. They also email you that option: blue cash card, I believe.
Would I receive the new card if I am a Costco member but currently do not have the Costco Amex card?
No u will have to apply.
I asked them yesterday at the store and they said since I already had the card I didn't have to apply and will get one automatically.
how is citi able to give these benefits and amex couldnot
The benefits are for this card for now, I would venture to guess they won't stay this attractive for long. I think the original AMEX benefits changed over time. Nothing stays permanent with Costco.
I'm just a single person, but looking at my spending last year across gas, restaurants, travel, and Costco, this would give me an extra ~$70/year. I'm definitely happy with this.
(Apart from quarters when Discover or Chase have better bonuses.)
I got the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred for the 6% on groceries, which pays for itself over the Blue Cash Everyday card if you spend ~$50/week at supermarkets. I didn't need an AmEx any more after Costco, but it occasionally has unique member offers so it's nice to have.
Alrighty then. I provided information about two sets of numbers that show this hasn't been good for AmEx. Let's have you come up with one now that shows AmEx has/is expected to do well as result of the Costco account loss. Go ahead.
The switch to Citi is almost certainly based on the merchant fee that AMEX was charging Costco. Citi probably gave Costco an merchant fee rate that was lower thant AMEX was willing to go. If Warren Buffett is not worried abouth AMEX then I would not be worried. AMEX made $1 billion selling their $13.9 billion costco AMEX portfolio to Citi.

The costco AMEX wasn't a good deal for us customers i mean 1%CB on costco and 2% on gas.

Why would you decline the Costco Visa when Citi retains your account history and age, doesn't require a hard pull, AND gives 2% CB at Costco??
Perhaps he only had the AmEx because of Costco, and now more options opened to him due to Visa being more widely available. Something for everyone.

By the way, Penfed Amex has 5x on airline ticket purchases if purchased directly from an airline.
Both cards do not have foreign transaction fee and I believe both have CHIP-and-PIN capability.
