Thanks!
Brilliant, Citi, just brilliant.

(Example: I currently have a card that gets me 5% on groceries. I discovered that Walmart is coded as a Grocery Store/Supermarket, so anything I buy at Walmart nets me 5% back.)

For the 4% on gas, note that non-qualifying includes "supermarkets, convenience stores"
That's basically every gas station in my area. If your Costco sells gas, you are good. Mine doesn't.

It will be called "Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi" (that's a mouthful).
For those who already have Costco Amex, they will mail out the replacement cards starting in May 2016, but you cannot use it until June 20, 2016.
A lot better benefits:
4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter (Costco Amex is 3%)
3% cash back on restaurant and eligible travel purchases worldwide (Costco Amex is 2%)
2% cash back on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com (Costco Amex is 1%)
1% cash back on all other purchases
$2500/mo on gas would require almost two fillups per day.. driving something like 25k miles per month. Or driving a round trip from Miami to Seattle every week. You'd have to spend roughly 12 hours per day driving in order to hit that amount.

But seriously, to hit $5000/mo in gas, you'd basically have to be driving 24/7.
(Or have lots of vehicles/drivers, I guess.)

I expect some folks are making a tiny purchase today to find out though.
